Japanese positive bumpy people: Butsukari Otoko
Navigating Tokyo’s bustling public transportation system can be stressful without worrying about intentional harassment a lot of ((pit) or Secret photography. However, there is another thing to be wary of for many commuters, especially women: Butsukari Otokoor people who intentionally bump into crowded spaces such as crosswalks or train stations.
I first heard about Butsukari Otoko in 2023 when I lived in a shared house in Osaka. One night, during a girl’s party, her roommate in her twenties complained about a man slamming her at Umeda station. “I didn’t even see him when he ran around and charged from behind me,” she said. “I was on the ground and saw the man walking away without any hesitation. He was probably in his mid-fifties.”
At the time, it sounded like a random creep. But this is not the full picture. This is part of a bigger model – posts are spreading across social media, with people sharing what they have recommended and promoted in public by Butsukari Otoko. The consultation column, Tiktok reels and Instagram posts are also full of tips on how to fight these people, while the comment section is filled with frustrated commuters with similar experiences. So what exactly are these Butsukari Otokos?

What is Butsukari Otoko?
Butsukari Otoko Literally, it is a “collision man” who deliberately collided with others (usually women) in a crowded public place or checked on the shoulders of others. Unlike accidental quarrels, or Tai Chi Alathaxisuch incidents naturally occur in packed trains and stations, and these events are intentionally disguised as unfortunate acts of aggression.
The perpetrators are usually middle-aged men (they are called Butsukari Ojisan) The picky people – usually women with smaller frames, who appear soft or non-confrontational – and forcefully hit the target while walking and shocking them. The perpetrators used the crowded nature of Japanese public transport to slip away without being identified or made their behavior appear accidental, causing the victims to question whether the incident was intentional.
The phenomenon of bumpy men attracted public attention in 2018 Youtube Videos Showing a man at the Zhenku Station, one by one hitting a woman. In a national survey in 2024, 20,000 respondents from men and women were sampled, with 14% responding that they were attacked. Six percent responded that they witnessed a yellow-skin incident, and five percent responded that they had both experienced it.
This issue will not only affect major swap stations like Shinjuku and Shin Brazil. Last November, Zero News Report Among the two victims, Butsukari Otoko in Tamachi Station was seriously injured: A woman wrote on X that she was paying attention to her business when she was suddenly slammed to break one of her bones. Another woman reported that she was punched by a past perp and she shouted, “You’re on the way!” She claimed that she suffered a severe rib fracture.
Although women are the majority of victims, Butsukari Otoko also preys on men, especially if they appear vulnerable or distracted. The same report details how a man went to the office, when an attacker came out from behind him and punched him, witnesses said they were being given their full strength. The man reportedly grabbed the man by the collar, kicked him on his head with his knee, and shouted, “Don’t underestimate the locals!” The man was later diagnosed with a concussion.

Types of Butsukari Otoko
In 2024, Japanese content creator Sandy Posted a scroll On Instagram, she detailed her experience with shoulder checks in public places and identified four common types of Butsukari Otoko:
- Tracker tsuiseki-gata) – These people carefully selected the target and then closed the target before the attack – “People who often become perverted,” Sandy of Japan described them.
- Judicial Warrior (Fate Type) Ininen-gata) – When they bump into you, these people are “reasonable” because you “blocked” or look at your phone.
- aggressor kougeki-gata) – These guys are just angry and frustrated. They use umbrellas, bags and even legs to whip them to relieve stress.
- My-Way Type wagamichi-gata) – They charge for traffic flow, refuse to move or produce – and crash into anyone on the way.

The person who counterattacked the car
Share their experiences on social media platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok, and even propose measures against themselves from Butsukari Otoko. It is generally recommended to walk around areas with sufficient light, walk near CCTV cameras, and stay alert in crowded environments. Some also recommend documenting the perpetrators for visual evidence.
Because these attackers tend to pick out people who look weaker or are unlikely to fight back, some netizens claim that by wearing heavier makeup, dressing up boldly, strengthening strength training to strengthen their bodies and gain confidence steps can stop these pests.
For example, in a Blog PostsJapanese male fashion expert Keita Yanagawa He used to be an easy target for Butsukari Otoko, given his weak appearance. He decided to get into fashion – wearing what he called “self-defense fashion” in avant-garde, stylish outfit in a way that drove predators away.
According to a series of seventh interviews by the News Post, crowded areas such as shibuya and Roppongi may see fewer cases of Butsukari Otoko. In these young areas, attracting different people with the energy of “reluctant me”, women interviewed said they would face the bumper head-on-chew, record them, chase them, and even drag them to the nearest Professional class (Police Box).
Don’t just brush
The most successful deterrent seems to have confidence, voice resistance. When a girl working in retail: “If someone hits us, we yell, chase them and shoot them posting on social media until they’re sorry!”
In the new moon, a male pharmacy employee recounted several incidents, and Butsukari Otoko chose the wrong target. “I’ve seen them chasing foreign women, completely shut down. At first glance, the foreigners seemed to have overreacted, but I stepped in and said, ‘It’s him! That’s the man who bumped!’ Once, a Southeast Asian girl started yelling after being hit by a perp, and her friends surrounded him so quickly that his life rushed out of there like his life.”
