Tokyo’s iconic kiss: a selection of local experts
Like many colorful subcultures in Japan, Star Van Retro has been a quiet but stable presence in Tokyo’s fashion, food and entertainment scenes for decades. But over the past five years, social media outlets like Instagram and Tiktok have re-interested in the retro aesthetics of the younger generation, who are looking for record sticks, vintage costumes and even vintage toys.
Of course, this obsession includes relative – Atmospheric, comfortable coffee shop, originally appeared in the early 20th century. Originally a quiet place for writers and businessmen to read and eat, Kissaten tends to adopt a simple but delicious menu including drip coffee, jelly parfait and Yoshoku (Western-style Japanese cuisine) Food pasta, pizza toast and other dishes.
Although many modern cafés inside and outside Japan try to recreate the charm of these spaces to take place in cultural moments, the long-standing troubles of kissers have a quiet and unpolished, very portrayal charm that is difficult to create.

Tricolore Honten
Located in the heart of Ginza, the historic shopping district in Tokyo. Tricolore Honten It is a long-standing gem known for its timeless excellence. It has been around since 1936 and is known for its amazing cafe, Au Laits. Yang told us: “Cafe au laits are pouring in your seat one by one.”

He also suggests trying Éclairs here, which have long been professional in cafes. The pastries are filled with cream in order, ensuring a delicious outer layer of crispness and fresh sweetness.
Cats are newly opened
For those looking for something weird, Yang recommends a coffee shop in a public bathroom Cats are newly openedin Kita City. The sentinel has been around for more than 70 years. Shinkaimeaning “deep sea”, comes from murals in women’s bathrooms and reflects on the cobalt walls of the cafe and the calming atmosphere.

The kisser has renovated through a crowdfunding effort to deliver the atmosphere of the bathroom to the younger generation. “We recommend trying the iconic novelty jelly and the owner’s secret recipe pudding,” Young said.

Not far from Ueno Park is Taito City Torontoa family-run Ashaa-ers Kissaten, is known for its classic Yoshoku dishes. “Kissing pauses see regular customers of all ages in the day, many of whom have existed since the cafe first opened in 1965,” Young noted.
Napoleon pasta in Toronto, Tabasco coffee and powder cheese, is Yoshoku and Itameshi (Japan-Italian Fusion) Lovers. The store’s pudding is filled with swirls of whipped cream, often storming for its incredible texture and rich flavor.

Coffee Tei Rouen
“You have to try Coffee Tei Rouen,” Yang Gushes. Located in Ota City near Jr Omori Station, this comfortable Kissaten is one of the best preserved cultural relics of Showa coffee in Tokyo.
Like many Kissatens, Rouen is a family-run agency currently led by second-generation boss Takamasa Miyazawa. Over the past few decades, the breakfast sets Yang mentioned have remained largely the same. It consists of a drink of your choice, plus butter and jam toast.

Ethel no Nakaniwa
If you find yourself koenjithe free and unrestrained Tokyo community is known as the “Birthplace of Japanese Punk Scenes” and you must check it out Ethel no Nakaniwa. Its name, meaning “Ethel’s Courtyard”, is perfectly matched with the magical interior and decor. The ceiling is hung with plants, velvety decorations and stained glass windows, and the cozy space feels like it appears directly from a whimsical fairy tale.

“Ethel’s cutlery is amazing,” Young notes. “You’ll see antique teapots, gorgeous cups and old-fashioned silverware.” While enjoying the delicious scones, cakes and tea, you can soak in the charming atmosphere of your surroundings.
