Menopause expert shares 3 supplements to boost low libido

In the United States, an estimated 6,000 women go through menopause every day, and more than 2 million people go through menopause each year.

Menopause (the absence of menstruation for 12 consecutive months) usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Symptoms include anxiety, mood changes, hot flashes, sleep problems, weight gain, and slowed metabolism.

Another important tell? Sexual desire is decreasing day by day.

Hormone expert, health coach, and menopause educator Jodie Johnson took to TikTok to share three supplements that she believes can boost desire for women going through this stage of life.

When women enter menopause, many feel confused and frustrated when it comes to their sexual desire, or lack thereof.

“As we go through perimenopause and menopause, our levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone begin to decline, all of which are critical to our sexual health and well-being,” Johnson says.

She explains that estrogen keeps the tissues in the vaginal area lubricated and elastic, and when estrogen drops, women may experience dryness and discomfort during intimacy.

As the testosterone that fuels desire dwindles, “you feel like the spark you once had is gone.”

In addition to the dryness and emptiness mentioned above, menopause can also cause fatigue, disrupted sleep patterns, and increased stress, all three factors that can also reduce libido.

“The truth is it’s not your fault. Your hormones are changing and your body is reacting to that change,” Johnson added.

How to get your mojo back before, during and after menopause? Johnson says her natural hormone balancing regimen of three supplements work together to regulate the body and reignite desire.

Her treatment regimen does not contain HRT, BHRT, creams, patches, or any other medications commonly used to treat perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that improve the composition of your gut microbiome by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Johnson says the prebiotic-probiotic blend is essential for hormone regulation, reducing inflammation and promoting overall health: “It also helps reduce bloating, making you feel more confident and comfortable in your body.”

Cortisol Targeting Blend

She also recommends adding a blend that targets cortisol, a stress hormone that can disrupt sleep and kill libido.

Blends containing adaptogens like ashgawanda and magnolia bark can help lower cortisol levels. Johnson maintains that when your body is relaxed, it’s easier to connect with your partner and create intimacy with ease.

Johnson says this blend of herbs, adaptogens and phytonutrients can support hormone balance, blood flow and libido.

“Ignite helps restore natural levels of testosterone, thereby boosting your libido,” she says, adding that this restoration can improve vaginal dryness and discomfort, “helping you feel more connected and responsive during intimacy.”

Additionally, Ignite can increase overall energy levels and bring about a feeling of vitality.

Jessica Shepherd, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, recently shared two key tips for healthy growth during menopause: strength training and increasing protein intake.

In addition to prioritizing protein and strength training, a new study finds that menopausal women who made cold water swimming part of their daily routine reported significant improvements in their physical and mental health.
