The wooden things you use to hang clothes out to dry…yeah, those.
There are also plastic ones, metal ones, large ones, small ones (like for scrapbooking), decorative ones, ones with teeth/ridges inside, ones with smooth clips, etc. The options are endless…
The same is true for the way you can use them in BDSM play.
Don’t you just clip them on?
Yes and no. It’s just a matter of sticking them on your skin, but how and where you stick them is where the fun is.
There is virtually no limit to where you can place the pins – nothing is off-limits (labia, breasts, ears, fingers, skin around ribs, testicles, nose, armpits, anywhere)… as long as…
- This is within the range of pain that the patient can tolerate.
- Does not hinder breathing
- Will not aggravate injuries or wounds
- Not placed in a location that may cause mental discomfort or trauma
How to Test Pin Strength
The best place is the skin between your index finger and thumb (and not just on your submissive – anything you use on them you should be able to test on yourself).
Whether it’s too tight or too loose depends entirely on the person being held down.
If it’s too tight, I’ve heard of people cutting the pins apart to weaken the coil and thus make it loose. Some people even drill holes in the handle and add a swivel clamp to adjust the pressure (but that’s a lot of work if you ask me).
You can also buy pins specifically for BDSM, but they are a bit pricey.
How to take them off
Putting them on is just as fun as taking them off, but remember one important thing…
It hurts more to take them off than to put them on. This is because of the blood flow back up to the area. Some people like it, some hate it, and some don’t care. It depends on the sub.
As for the actual removal, if you are just starting out, I recommend taking them off gently (loosely.) After you get more comfortable with the experience, you can take them off with a flogger, whip, pins, or zippers!
What is a zipper?
This is the “zipper”. The pins are attached to a string or cord so that when you pull it, they come off one by one. It can be very intensely painful, pleasurable and fun.
notes: Once the pins are on, they have to come off at some point, so if your subordinate uses their safeword, you’re in a bit of trouble. The best way to do this is to remove them by hand (no zipping) and give them careful aftercare — including a discussion of how to avoid similar painful situations in the future — although, if you just get to these points slowly, this should rarely happen.
How will they feel?
Some people feel intense pain (worse than a pin prick). Others get a rush of endorphins and a very warm, cozy feeling. Some cry. A few say the areas become extra sensitive afterwards — so blowing on or touching them can produce an extra physical response.
safety warning
- Do not leave the pins on for more than 15-20 minutes
- You can delete
- Don’t use pins with teeth, if you use a zipper it may tear the skin
- Use sandpaper to remove any parts of the wooden clamp that may have splintered.
- Don’t put the clamp on your clitoris (too fragile)
- If you are a beginner, please shorten the wearing time
- Watch for blue discoloration of the skin
- Notice coldness or numbness
- Be careful with piercings
