Dealing with the male ego in relationships can be exhausting especially when you’re in the early stage of a relationship. However, knowing how to handle the male ego in a woman, is a great way to improve the longevity of your relationship.

Understanding the male Ego is the first step towards coping with it.

What is a male Ego?

A male ego is the general perception to a man’s masculinity guiding the way he’s expected to think, behave and act . It is a trait specifically meant to guide a man’s behavior around others, in such a way that his self worth remains intact.

A male’s EGO doesn’t always imply that he’s proud, sometimes it is exhibited to shield himself from Being held up by his emotions. Male ego in relationships can be well managed by understanding why men are so intentional about their ego.

why are men so intentional about their EGO.

To protect their identity

Unlike the female gender, the male gender is known to be strong. A man’s primary function is to provide, protect and render emotional and psychological support to his loved ones. Every man wants to have that dominant trait. Every man desires to lead, irrespective of how awkward the situation might be. When a man fails in this aspects, he might end up feeling worthless.

This explains why a man would rather be numb while going through tough moments, than sharing his burdens with his loved ones despite their persistence to know about it. Another scenario applicable to this is maintaining their male role, despite an adjustment in their financial sources.

To safeguard their heart.

This is one of the significant effect of male ego in relationships. Men who understands what it takes to attract a woman tries every thing within their reach to maintain their Egocentric nature. One of the subtle ways they do that is to avoid any attitude that will make them appear as a simp. Attitudes like desperation, begging for attention and trying to attract the attention of their crush via material acquisitions.

To be in charge of their Emotions.

While it is human to feel emotional, however, the male’s emotion tends to differ from that of the female. Hence the reason for this mind blowing article. Emotional differences In men and women. It is common for a woman to exhibit her emotions when in a relationship, she nags at any slightest negligence, gets paranoid if her calls goes unanswered, gets worked up when she sees his man with other women. Men on the other hand, experience these type of emotions, but the difference is that they rarely show it. A man is known to have the ability to conceal his emotions than his female counterpart.

To think logical and make rational decisions.

Men, unlike women don’t involve their emotions while taking decisions. A woman may say things which she never meant because she’s so into her emotions, and then regret afterwards. She may make decisions she never intend to because she’s so overwhelmed with her emotions.

But on the contrary, a man need to reason thoroughly before making his decisions, because most times, their decisions tend to be final and can never be reversed.that is also a proof of masculinity hence the reason he protects his ego by all means.

To Earn their respect

Respect is one attribute that men does not joke with. Men prioritize respect like a daily meal. Hence the reason they are so intentional to protect their ego. Men who are so sensitive about their ego don’t condone rejection or any act that shows disregard from the female gender. When they make their intentions known, and it is not reciprocated, they move on immediately.

Having known why men are so intentional about their ego, it is common to misinterpret it as “pride”.

However, a man’s EGO doesn’t have to denote pride except it has a trait of disrespect, toxicity and emotional/physical abuse attached to it, this is when you really need to take a walk. It is no longer ego but pride.

Communication

Assumption has ruined a lot of relationship. Sometimes, a man might be undergoing lots of down moment in his life which may cause a slight withdrawal in things he love including his loved ones. And in other to protect his ego, he might not want to bother the people around him.

The first thing to do when you notice in slight decline in his attention towards you is to communicate. Don’t conclude that he’s mistreating you or disregarding you. Find out first, as long as he’s willing to open up to you. Being a supportive partner during tough times is also paramount to coping with a man’s EGO.

Act independent.

Men will always need their space from time to time, no matter how passionate they love you. Just like I explained earlier, they love handling things on their own without having to bother their loved ones.

Such attitude may cause a slight withdrawal and distance in the relationship. When you don’t understand this, you will likely view it as a pride.

To avoid being paranoid, always give him space, don’t suffocate him with your presence. Absence they say makes the heart grow fonder.

Being around him 24/7 and always demanding his attention will lead to a sudden lost of interest. Men love the chase, they love it more when they rekindle the interest, it is part of their ego. Doing that as a woman will make you loose your worth.

avoid nagging.

Coping with a nagging partner can be exhausting. Not just for men, but for every individual. Nagging is a big turn off for men.

Most women are ignorant of this, you don’t have to get a man’s attention by nagging, contrary to your assumptions, the more you nag, the more he pulls away from you further.

At a point, he will begin to see you as a nuisance and disturbance to his life.

You don’t have to be numb when you notice an unusual behavior from your partner either . But the way you handle it will determine whether or not there will be a change from them.

If you’ve complained about an unusual behaviour once, you don’t need to keep repeating that over and over again. A man who values you will change afterwards, and if he doesn’t, distance yourself from him emotionally, and use the reverse psychology. When he observes that you no longer care, he will definitely change soon.

protect your ego too.

To cope with a male ego in relationships, you have to protect yours too. Despite the description about men being Egoistic due to their masculine trait, they ain’t only the one with ego. As a woman, you have yours too. Your ego is your value and dignity which needs to be considered and respected.

When you’re always taking up the blame in a relationship, just for peace, it implies that you’re in toxic relationship .

When you’re dealing with a man who never deems it fit to apologize when he’s wrong, or admit his mistakes, it can bruise your feminine Ego. A man’s EGO needs to be managed not to be bruised. So in other to manage it effectively, it has to be mutual. In other words, you deserve your own respect and value as he does.

Apologize when necessary, stop taking up blames in an act you ain’t guilty of, you’re only boosting the Ego of an undeserving man.

Handling the male ego in relationships is not difficult, it’s all about understanding what the male gender wants, and maintaining a balance between their needs and yours.
