Bisexuality is the near-cosmic experience of primates –

How do you swing your sexual behavior?

The bisexual cohort (those attracted to both men and women) is growing. A 2024 Gallup poll showed that 4.4% of American adults said they were bisexual, and 57.3% of them had been identified as LGBTQ+.

However, research recently showed that bisexuality may be more common than we previously understood.

Dr. Jason Hodgson, an evolutionary geneticist at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, talks to Daily Mail about his “bisexual range” about humans “The study, he claims people rarely have completely heterosexual or homosexuality – rather than belonging somewhere in terms of gender.

“I expect most people should actually be bisexual,” Hodson said.

“The genes that affect homosexual behavior may just be genes that affect sociality in general, and people in the range of changes may be better in all social relations.”

“So, people who will engage in same-sex sexual behavior in some cases may be better at creating opposite-sex relationships.”

Hodgson uses a simple numerical formula to illustrate his point: everyone is in the range of 0 to 1, 0 means heterosexuality and 1 means purely homosexuality.

“So if a person has a gay experience and 99 opposite sex experiences, their value will be 1/100 or 0.01, just within the bisexual range.”

It should also be noted that sexual “experiences” may appear in the form of a true physical encounter with another person, but may also cover those who are in mere sight or the awakening of another person. Ergo, a person does not need to engage in both heterosexual and homosexual behaviors in real life to become bisexual.

“I suspect most people will be slightly bisexual in the bisexual range,” Hodgson said, adding that engaging in bisexual experiences is not the same as identifying bisexuality.

Anthropologists say this rule is correct for most primates, explaining how bisexual plays an important social role. In a 2016 study, Hodgson found that BONOBOS is one of the few animal species engaged in conventional homosexual interactions, usually more than animals that are opposite to the opposite sex.

“Bo bones are bisexual, which is believed to contribute to group cohesion,” Hodgson wrote in the paper published in the Encyclopedia of Evolutionary Psychology. “Bisexuality may be the norm because those involving homosexual gender People are often involved in reproductive gender as well.”

Hodgson also noted that “many genes” work together to determine human sexual behavior, which means that sexual orientation is to some extent a heritable trait.

“The genes that affect homosexual behavior are common and most people have a smaller or higher level,” he said.
