Cheapest way to find perimeter preferences/limits

The title says it all. Just looking for advice on finding my wife’s girth preferences and toy limits without spending a fortune. I recently put 4 fingers horizontally inside her and she really liked the way it hit the sides of her clitoris, but that doesn’t necessarily mean doing it with the diameter of the dildo.
