Gen Z singles flock to Facebook to find dates
it is Z The hottest matchmaking app on the map.
Facebook finally has Gen Z in the market, as singles in their 20s start turning to the decades-old site’s “Dating” feature to find love.
“Facebook dating is suffocating me — I’m just obsessed,” Lexa, 27, admitted in a viral video that she previously thought only “fucking weirdos” used the platform.
But the brunette beauty soon started singing a different tune as she brushed up against some of the “sexiest men I’ve ever seen in my fucking life.”
“Facebook Dating has to be the most elitist dating app I’ve ever seen,” fawns Lexa.
And she’s not alone.
Facebook Dating, which launched in 2019, has become an underrated and unexpected behemoth in the world of love connections, now with more than 21 million daily users, according to a recent report in The New York Times.
Its popularity currently exceeds that of leading dating apps such as Hinge, which attracts around 15 million users per day.
Tom Alison, the head of Facebook, attributes the success of dating to the free social media standard of social links.
“The root cause of all this is that there are real people on Facebook,” he told The New York Times. “You can see who they are, you can see your connection to them, and if you have mutual friends, we can easily see that you have common interests.”
This convenience attracts Gen Z to the site – which has historically been rejected by young people as an outdated app aimed at 30-something Millennials and above.
But Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has spent the past few years trying to shed its “mom” vibe and transform the hub into a premium hotspot for creators, groups and events aimed at attracting people born after 1997.
“When you look at Gen Z’s usage on Facebook, you see they’re not using social media,” Mike Proulx, a director at research firm Forrester VP, explained in the report. “What brings them back to the platform is Marketplace, Messenger, Dating.”
Zoomer-friendly updates are paying big dividends.
While Facebook Dating is primarily popular among people over 30, it has about 1.8 million users in their 20s, with hundreds of thousands of young people creating new profiles on the app every month, according to the company.
The data echoes previous findings, with daily conversations on Facebook Dating among users aged 18 to 29 increasing by 24% over the last year, according to a recent study. The survey also determined that more than half of young adult users return loyally, with 55% of women and 56% of men using the app again each month to seek romance.
Lexa’s TikTok fans seem to agree, with the once-maligned app serving as a hub for Gen Z daters.
“Facebook dating is elitist idc anyone says that,” a commenter raves.
“I have more conversations with men on Facebook Dating than on any other app,” cheered another.
“Facebook dating is on fire,” wrote one equally impressed boaster.
I’ve seen some of the most beautiful women on that app! This is legal. “
