Creating our Step 4 inventory can be a painful effort. Basically, we are digging out the worst part of ourselves and writing it on paper, knowing we will be sharing this information with others soon (as part of step 5). If we work on step 4 and start to feel severe anxiety or depression, we should take a break. We can throw away a day or two and share our feelings with our friends and loved ones who support our recovery. Later, when we are less overwhelmed, we can return to the work. As long as we delay it indecisively.
