205 comic artists contribute to Noto's charity auction

The Japan Manga Association will hold a charity auction called “Manga de Go!”. Support victims of the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. The unprecedented initiative has collected 278 color illustrations from 205 comic artists, making it the association’s largest charitable auction to date.

Huge comics initiative

Leaded by Association President Tetsuya Chiba (creator Ashta has no Joe), Chairman of the Board of Directors Machiko Satonaka (with Mrs. An), board member Go Nagai ( demon and Mazinger z) – Originally from the city of Wajima in the affected area, the charity auction represents an important unity in the Japanese comic community. The auction includes collaborative illustrations between different artists, further enhancing the unique value of these charitable products.

“This is the largest charitable auction we have ever had,” said a representative from the Japan Society of Cartoonists. “The overwhelming response from generations of artists demonstrates the commitment of the comic community to support the people affected by this disaster.”

Auction details and schedule

The illustrations will be released in five batches of Yahoo Auctions, the first batch will be conducted on May 28 and the last batch will end on June 1. After deducting Yahoo’s commission and shipping costs, all proceeds will be donated to the Ishikawa Perfocation Donation window to benefit directly the earthquake.

Interested bidders can visit the official auction page of the Yahoo auction account of the Japan Manga Artists Association.

The progress of the donation will be reported on the official website of the Japan Manga Artists Association and on the X (formerly Twitter) account.

The star-studded lineup of participating artists

The auction features original artworks of some of the most famous names in the comics, including:

  • Hajime Isayama (creator of global phenomena Attack Titan)
  • Masakazu Katsura (with yes and Video Girl AI)
  • Naoki Urasawa (creator monster,,,,, 20th century boyand Pluto)
  • Rumiko Takahashi (the legendary creator behind it Inuyasha and Lanma ½)
  • Go to nagai (demon,,,,, Majinge Zand Cute honey)
  • Moto Hagio (the pioneer and creator of Shōjo comics Po clan)
  • Fujiko Fujio (beloved creator Doraemon series)
  • Keiko Takemiya (known for its groundbreaking nature kaze to ki no uta)
  • Yoshihiro Togashi (creator Hunter × Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho)
  • Hiro Mashima ( Fairy Tale Tail and Parts zero)
  • Eiichiro Oda (record-breaking creator piece)

Go Nagai’s involvement is particularly important because he comes from Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture, one of the areas with the worst impact of the earthquake in January. His personal connection with the area contributes to support among comic creators.

Recovery work through art support

The Noto Peninsula earthquake hit on January 1, 2024, causing extensive damage throughout Ishikawa Prefecture and adjacent areas. Many residents are still displaced and face significant challenges in rebuilding their lives and communities.

For comic lovers and collectors, the auction not only represents a chance for legendary comic creators to obtain rare original art, but also has the opportunity to contribute to critical relief efforts for those who are still recovering from one of Japan’s most devastating natural disasters recently.

“The comics connect during difficult times and provide hope during difficult times,” an auction spokesman said. “Through this initiative, we hope to leverage this power to benefit those who are still struggling after the earthquake.”

Interested bidders can participate through the Yahoo auction in Japan, with new illustrations released weekly until June 1.
