Why expensive personal matchmakers soar in popularity

Love in the air – the price is certain.

Bonnie Winston, founder of Bonnie Winston Matchmaker, said it was a “blast”, and the company charged up to $150,000 for its customers’ services. Winston has seen her business “multiplier” in the past few years and has witnessed a new group of matchmakers entering the business.

“My clients are billionaires and many millionaires – they have succeeded in every area of ​​their lives … besides love,” she told the Post. “They don’t want to be alone.”

Winston hosts an annual industry gathering for others in her career every May. She said that in 2022, about 90 people participated. This year, 165 matchmakers have arrived.

Winston, who teamed up with Patti Stanger of Bravo’s “Millionaire Matchmaker” show, said she was responsible for “too many marriages to count”, adding: “The matchmaker industry has grown because it works because it works,”

Dating services, including apps and old-fashioned matchmakers, have exploded in the past few years and are expected to reach $13.4 billion in revenue by 2030. Meanwhile, traditional applications in dominant markets, such as Hinge and Tinder, are suffering some declines.

A study released in April by digital companion platform JOI AI found that 64% of app users felt “desperate”. Shares in Match Group, a technology giant that runs many dating apps, including Tinder, Hinge and Okcupid, have dropped more than 80% from pandemic highs.

Lori Zaslow and partner Jenn Zucher run NYC’s high-end docking service Soulmate, NYC-based. The company charges up to $120,000 for its services.

“People used to meet at work – but, legally, you can’t do that anymore,” Zaslow said.

But the pandemic, rather than HR policies, actually led to prosperity.

“Because of COVID, people feel like they’ve gone for many years of their lives, and they want to make up for that, they’ll use every pathway they’re available to them,” Zucher noted.

Meanwhile, close social skills that make people rusty.

“People have forgotten how to flirt with Kuvid and are no longer good at it,” Zaslow said.

“And you don’t want to do what you’re not good at – you’re worried about rejection,” Zucher added. “With a matchmaker, you know you’re going to be building with someone being censored, who is actually single, and looking for love, too.”

Winston agreed.

On the Upper East Side, a dedicated marriage event at the buzzing private club Casa Tua attracted 50 single men and women, aged 24 to 65.
