It’s not like you travel back in time and lust after a hairier version of the male species of the present. You’re actually courting your classmate Taira, who also happens to be a T. rex.

To make things even weirder, the center gear revolves around a broken ukulele.

I’ve played this game, by the way. I can assure you that even though it starts out like a cute dating sim, things quickly take a dark turn into a twisted spiral of mental degradation, self-harm, and even death. My ultimate reaction was the same as most other players – traumatized.

What’s more, the game allows for a second playthrough, where your first choices will affect the next playthrough… which will make you want to sleep with the lights on.

PANZERMADELS: A Tank Dating Simulator

“Erwin Lemer has just been transferred to a prestigious military academy to study armored warfare. But when he arrives, Erwin realizes this is not tank school, it’s ‘tank school’ for WWII tanks. And those tanks just happen to look like Japanese schoolgirls.”

Yes, you’re dating a girl who represents tanks. No wonder people have wildly different opinions about this game (and let’s be honest, most people don’t like the publisher).

TOMAK: Save the Earth – A Love Story

Developed by Korean developer SEED9, this game is part of the Tomak series (which is said to be very popular in Japan). The protagonist of Save the Earth is half human, half plant. I’ll give you a minute to let this sink in.

The story tells that the earth is about to be destroyed, and the gods give the goddess of love one last chance. If she can make humans fall in love with her within three years, the earth will not be destroyed.

Raptor Boyfriend

This teen drama follows a teenage student with severe social anxiety but desperate for love. As soon as she arrives at school, she is spoiled by three other students and ends up falling for them – a magical fairy, a sensitive lone ranger Bigfoot, and a bold and unpredictable velociraptor.

But you know what? Out of all the crazy games out there, this is the only one that seems to be of general interest to players. Plus, the art style isn’t cutesy anime, which is a nice change. I might just give in to my morbid curiosity and give it a try.

I don’t have any morbid curiosity about this visual novel. Why?

Long story short, the game framework may be the same as any regular dating sim, but not only will you (the protagonist) feel like you hear alien voices, but every romanceable lover will appear in the form of some kind of meat. Even their names are meat. So, you can sit there and fall in love with Beef while your friend is dating Tuna.

Boyfriend Dungeon

Those of you who love BDSM might be thinking, this is definitely real! But hold your breath. It’s not what you think. The main character is a girl, and when she goes into a dungeon to kill monsters and grab loot, the man she chooses becomes a gun.

You can also upgrade your boyfriend.

Cute Boyfriend

I swear, when I first saw this I thought it was the “awful” boyfriend. This is way better than what I saw on the Steam store’s “About” page.
