The pain that drives our disease

It is through entering the abyss that we restore the treasure of our lives. Where we stumble is our treasure.

Addiction is mainly due to early life trauma that poisons the holes in relationships. As Gabor Maté wrote in his book In the Hungry Ghost Realm“harm is the center of all addictive behaviors.” Basically, due to unresolved early trauma, we have learned to connect fear to human intimacy and attachment. So when we struggle or feel frustrated, we refuse to turn to others, or even loved ones. Instead, we compulsively and obsessively comfort ourselves by numbing our addicted substances or behaviors.
