Addicts are people who try to escape reality.
Addiction is often referred to as a disease of perception. Even when those around us are loving and supportive, we have a hard time seeing it that way. Instead, we choose to feel abused and exploited by others. In this way, we attribute our desire to escape and dissociate (through the use of addictive substances or addictive behaviors, such as sex or pornography) to the attitudes and behaviors of others, thereby using (and often exaggerating) external experiences and connections to justify and validate our addictive behaviors.
Today’s Task
Think about the way you see the world and other people. Is your perception accurate?
