The cost of negative reactions to sexual rejection

On Thursday, I said hurting our wives always hurts our marriages. Today I want to give you a real-life bedroom example.

You want sex. You ask her if she’s interested in having sex. She said no. Over the next 24 hours, you’ll be angry, moody, or ignore her.

Any of these reactions can hurt your wife. But they do more than that. They make you appear selfish, childish, or controlling. And any of these things will make you less sexy, thus reducing her interest in sex in the future. This can damage your marriage.

I suspect most of us can identify with this example. We could say this is a natural reaction. But being natural doesn’t mean it’s right or good. Nature doesn’t change how we look, how she feels about it, or make us less sexy.

If you’re trying to make her feel bad, or make her feel guilty about sex, she’s probably aware of what you’re doing. This is even worse for her and your marriage.

Doing things that hurt your wife is destructive. Learn to do better.
