Secret Incest is like the air in the room. It’s here, but you can’t see it.
Survivors of secret incest (someone who is emotionally and psychologically engaged in sex by parents or other important caregivers) usually respond in the same way as survivors of open (hands-on) sexual abuse and have one or more of the following adult life symptoms and consequences:
- Addiction (especially sex and porn addiction)
- Difficult to develop and maintain close relationships
- The feeling of shame and lack of
- Dissociation
- Difficulties in self-care (emotional and/or physical)
- Love/Hate relationships (especially with parents who commit crimes, and with others)
- Inappropriate bonds with your own children (intergenerational abuse)
