Shame loses its power when shared with another caring person.

As sex and porn addicts, we can almost universally recognize when other addicts talk about the “junk boards” in their heads that hold unsolicited discussions, or the “negative tapes” that spin relentlessly in their ears , or the little monster that lives in their skull. and screamed “You’re terrible!” They were rapt at all hours of the day and night. These voices are shame, and shame is the driving force behind the development and maintenance of sex and porn addiction (and all other addictions). Learning to identify, understand, and overcome shame is an integral part of our recovery and healing process.

Talk to a supportive person in recovery about the shaming messages you hear in your head and let them give you a reality check.
