The universe shakes you and wakes you up.
If you’ve worked your way through the first ten steps but find that you’re still not aligned with the spiritual nature of recovery, especially in step 11, that’s okay. Don’t fret, try to think of step 11 as part of an ongoing spiritual practiceand thought practice as a learning process. So you don’t need to do this step perfectly. In fact, most recovering addicts find that the effort of performing Step 11 is more important than any other factor when it comes to lasting positive results. So, whether you understand (or don’t understand) your higher power, that is wonderful. You don’t have to be a devout Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, or anything else to do Step 11 because Step 11 has nothing to do with religion. Rather, it is about finding your personal spiritual center, whatever that may be.
today’s task
Think of a valid higher power for yourather than trying to force yourself to accept someone else’s version of a higher power.
