Six best songs I wrote this year – Girls
Dear reader, since I mentioned my Songaweek Challenge here for a minute, but it’s still powerful… Yesterday I uploaded my 34th song of the year!
They are not all About Sex – Some of them are about tattoos, fascism, dragonflies, Zionism and gamer boys – but, you know me: Sex is my favorite topic to write about, no matter the medium. Today, I’m leaving my usual sex prose and sharing some sex lyrics. Here are six sex-related songs I’ve written so far in 2025 (all can be purchased on Bandcamp and streamed, which is a great way to support my work so I can keep writing!)

Song title: A natural way
Song theme: Menstruation
How it happens: The first voice memo in the process of my songwriting was titled “countryish era sex Concept.mp3”, from me murmured: “I don’t know why this is a country song, but…”. I wanted to write a song about period sex, partly because I like the great Rachel Lark songs on the same topic, but partly just because I have a lot of strong opinions about period sex. I drafted the lyrics in my songwriting notebook and for some reason it always sounds like a country song in my head with a bad fake southern accent. I thought about a bunch of alternative titles like “Red Wings,” “Hematophobia,” and “Just Dift Blood” before settling on “The Road to Nature.”
lyrics:
Today is Friday night, it’s date night, I just confirmed the plan
Because I know what I want to do tonight, it involves you, man!
But maybe we should postpone it until another night
Because I just checked my panties, I saw some red…
I know we’ve never talked about it. I don’t know your position
But I hope you can separate the crimson ocean and seize the opportunity
Lay the best plan to be cancelled quickly
“Because a little blood sugar will ruin all the fun, so…
chorus:
Take out my tampon with your teeth and
Helps relieve my cramps; I like
The pain that killed me naturally
Red Wings won’t make you fall
So leave the handprint on the wall
Then I’ll be sure you’ll stay
How could you be afraid? It’s just menstruation
It happens every month to nearly half of the population!
I don’t want you to abandon me or fall in the mud
I just asked for passion because it was just a little blood!
(Repeat chorus)
I will respect your boundaries, but I have my own:
If you’d rather take your blood off your hands, I’d rather be alone
Because at any time of day and at any time of month
I deserve someone who will face to face on my unt!
(Repeat chorus)
As raw and bloody as your steak
I will be caught by red hands every day!

Song title: Make it hurt
Song theme: Masochism
How it happens: I was lying in bed trying to sleep for one night, and suddenly a line of songs popped up on my head: “Oh baby, let it hurt; unless it’s the worst, that doesn’t mean anything.” I awkwardly and faithfully recorded a voice memo from the bed, so I won’t forget this piece overnight. The next morning, I wrote the rest of the song and chose the progress of Dorian-Mode Chord because that was the weekly theme in my online songwriter group that day. Overall, it’s a very intuitive and easy songwriting process, perhaps because masochism is a topic I’ve elaborated on in many mediums before!
lyrics:
chorus:
Oh, baby, let it hurt
Unless it is the worst, this doesn’t mean
Yes, baby – you can flirt
But follow – I hope you let it hurt
I have special tastes, unusual wishes
Like: Sometimes it feels so delicious
Can you handle it? Will you ask? Say I’m not in my mind?
Or would you try it? Make me cry? It’s a kind way, so…
(Repeat chorus)
Your brain has been trained to be sweet and gentle
Well, if the barrier is mental, it’s easy to solve
We can pretend, just like we were childhood friends – you are a planned villain
You’ll fake it until you do it; I’m sure you can! so…
(Repeat chorus)
Why do I always hurt myself?
Even through someone else?
Why do I push until bruised and bleeding?
Why is this what I need?
(Repeat chorus)

Song title: Don’t fuck people…
Song theme: The importance of sexual standards
How it happens: I dated people who didn’t ask me questions, which forced me to process them through the song. After a few days of writing, I decided to add the introduction section of the little juggling acrobatics at the beginning to relate the rest of the song to it. Naturally, I had to wear a “grace” t-shirt in the video!
lyrics:
I went through a stage of debauchery. I don’t regret my slutty days
Most of them are good, but sometimes they are bad
Therefore, for all other daily journalists looking for lovers,
Here is what I hope I have some suggestions…
Don’t fucking people who don’t make you laugh – this is a reasonable rule!
Yes, don’t fucking people who don’t make you laugh because the sense of humor is cool
If they can’t even make you laugh, don’t you think they’ll be a horror drill too?
So don’t fucking people who don’t make you laugh, because life is too short!
Don’t fucking people who don’t ask your questions because curiosity is great
Yes, don’t fucking people who don’t ask you questions – why do they even date?
Why would the sex be different if they don’t show scraps of interest? Trust me, ‘because I’ve seen it before:
Please don’t fucking people who don’t ask you questions, because life is too short!
I know these rules seem to be restrictive
Sometimes you just want to lay out
I’m not going to scare you-I just want to keep you
From all the mistakes I made, so…
Don’t fucking someone who makes you feel bad – there’s no reason you should
Yes, don’t fucking people who make you feel bad because you should feel good!
First of all, the best behavior; it can’t be better in the future – you might as well go out the door
Please, don’t fucking people who make you feel bad because life is so fucking bad!
Life is so fucking short!

Song title: Praise of a woman’s head
Song theme: Virgin Myth and Slut
How it happens: I typed the word “hymen” at some point and accidentally typed “hymn” and the idea of the song was born. I fleshed it out a few months later, a satirical chorus about the mean patriarchal myth. I rarely sing in this more classical style when I perform my own songs, but I was the head of the alto department in the children’s choir when I was young, and it was fun to get back to this chorus atmosphere sometimes!
lyrics:
All people will be hymen, a sign of sin
It guards the opening ceremony and won’t let you in
Full of meaning and divinity,
It is said to be a sign of virginity
All are hail hymen, good actor
Mark events with mandatory bleeding
Some people say nothing. Some say this is the worst
Some people say you harvest what you sow, which is why it hurts
chorus:
Don’t push, don’t worry
Slow down the touch
I promise if you take the time,
You don’t have to hurt your virginity
All are hymens, damn scapegoats
There or no one decides who I am:
Virgin or slut, dissatisfied or cold
This is not the most accurate diagnosis, is it?
Everyone will laugh at it, so misunderstood
It’s just a body part; it’s not a bad thing
How could this be moral? How could it be correct?
Check out the woman’s cherries on wedding night?
(Repeat chorus)

Song title: UTI
Song theme: Urinary tract infection
How it happens: When I did have UTI, I started riffing on some basic chords. It was usually an isolated and humble experience in my twenties when I was connected to a random guy that would happen to me and I would feel pain after parting ways. It’s fun to try to capture this feeling in the song.
lyrics:
I have another UTI; it makes me want to cry again
I’m in cranberry, but I’m still very inflamed
I had another UTI after having sex with a man
He left a long time ago. I don’t remember his name
The sad part: It’s my own fault – it might make bacteria angry
But as usual, that’s the difficult part: take care of yourself
So I have another UTI – another $49.95
Medications for my pain from the gut to the knee
I have another UTI – I can go DIY again
I asked for my D-Mannose! (I hope you don’t know what this means)
Should be staying in my room to play with toys
‘Because my body will never trust me when I’m with a boy I don’t trust
I have another UTI which makes me dry again
Happiness is just a memory, the ghost I once knew
I’m tired of pain. I don’t match the anatomy
I have another UTI; I think I’m going to cry again

Song title: Touch me, not
Song theme: Asexual
How it happens: This is a stupid origin story. I got the advice of “sunglasses” and “bees” and got a beautiful and melancholy background to riff. My song is to use sunglasses as protection for bee attacks, and the lyrics of the chorus (“Only my shadow/make me safe from bees/protect from bees…”) But there is a super beautiful melody that I liked briefly recorded on my phone that night before going to bed. The melody segment eventually became the chorus of this song (“I like you very much, but/I don’t want you to touch me completely/I don’t touch me at all”). I’ve been writing a song about realization, i.e. I’m probably farther than I realize, and I’ve made little progress until I got on this chorus, when the rest just flowed out of me. For me, this is a very important song.
lyrics:
It was a wonderful night, but I think I’m full
I don’t know what to say, so I think I’ll:
Not long enough since we first met
And what I think you want, I don’t want it yet
chorus:
I like you very much, but I don’t want you to touch me
not at all
I like you very much, but I don’t want you to touch me
not at all
There is nothing wrong with driving fast, but I like to walk slowly
Why do we like what we like? No one really knows it, but
You must cooperate with what you have received – No apology
There are a lot of things I can accept or leave
(Repeat chorus)
I’m not an arrogant person, I’m not teasing
It’s not rude to say what I need
So you will be late and love someone
I’ll go home alone and have a lot of fun!
(Repeat chorus)
I don’t want one day I may regret it
I like you very much, but I don’t want you to touch me
I don’t want one day I may regret it
I like you very much, but I don’t want you to touch me
