In sexual recovery, we create clear and concise sexual sobriety plans to define what sobriety means to us and to provide ourselves with guidelines for living healthier, happier lives. These plans are written and signed like contracts and are designed to help us hold ourselves accountable to our commitments, especially when things are challenging. When we lack clear sexual boundaries, it’s easy to decide in the moment that certain activities are okay, even if they’ve caused serious problems in the past. We need to remember that impulsive decisions made without clear guidelines are what hold us back, so it’s best not to leave any wiggle room in our sobriety plans.
