Review: Weredog Skylar the Winter Drake Dildo (+ K-Lube)

Skylar is a sleek dragon dildo with a strong curve and scaly base. Stylized and straightforward, it fills a fantasy without the intimidating level of texture some fantasy dildos offer.

I wasn’t sure how I’d like Skylar. I like a curve, but the low texture and slim head made me wonder if it was the right choice. Weredog let me pick out multiple toys for review, so I decided to take their dragon for a ride.

About Weredog

Weredog, based in the UK, carries fantasy sex toys represented by anthropomorphic furry characters who each have their own erotic story. Their designs are stylized, bringing an almost cartoony look to both their classic models and their more unique toys. The lineup ranges from dildos and penetrables to packers and paws. Their website can be accessed by either the standard url or the delightful redirect were.dog.

Weredog works with Bad Dragon. I have issues with Bad Dragon (some of which are noted at the bottom of this post), but I also recognize that they’re the name brand in fantasy dildos: They’ve got money, they introduce a lot of people to fantasy toys, and their actions impact the indie/fantasy sex toy sphere overall. If it helps Weredog thrive and grow, I’d rather see that than see them struggle as many shops have over the past few years.

There have been questions and rumors about what exactly Weredog’s involvement is with Bad Dragon and if it means Bad Dragon owns them now. Below is what I managed to find out from public records and discussions with Weredog’s customer service in January 2024.

  • Bad Dragon and Weredog share techniques, training, and industry knowledge with each other.
  • Bad Dragon and Weredog do not have any kind of arrangement to pour/ship/distribute each other’s toys; they both make their own toys in house.
  • Bad Dragon is a majority shareholder of Weredog. Majority shareholders are able to have a say in the direction of a company. Bad Dragon is supposedly hands-off, at least from a creative standpoint, letting Weredog have “total freedom” in that aspect.
  • Weredog can choose whether to pay dividends to shareholders or reinvest in the company. They are reinvesting 100% into the company.
  • Varka, the CEO of Bad Dragon, is an officer for Weredog. He works directly with Weredog but may not necessarily be highly involved.
  • One of Bad Dragon’s general managers is Weredog’s Chief Finance Officer.

I purchased a medium Skylar, medium Nile, Gideon’s Butt, Sapphire, The Canine, K-Lube (60g), and a sample pack of firmness pucks. The order totaled just under $520 at the time. (That would run about $550 as of 5/2/24.) Weredog provided me with a $500 voucher in exchange for reviews and also sent me a custom silicone can later on at no cost (which fit right into my coffee-themed subcollection).

My other Weredog reviews from this order can be seen here. Remaining toys from this order will be reviewed shortly.

Their website includes the option to create an account, allowing you to view your order history and receive a birthday discount coupon. Non-GBP prices on their site update daily based on conversion rates. For orders including custom items like mine did, Weredog estimates up to 30 days from order to dispatch. My order took 41 days to dispatch, but I placed the order right after Nile was released, so I anticipated the delay. It arrived within 48 hours of shipping out.

Each toy was individually sealed in plastic inside a black Weredog-branded cotton bag, with the firmness pucks inside a paper envelope. I highly recommend washing the bags prior to use; they’re linty otherwise, and silicone loves lint.

Skylar is an “artist’s experiment” style of pour with bright blue threaded through bold red. It either includes purple or blends in some areas to create purple. The shaft is medium firmness 00-50 while the cream base is firm 00-60. It gives the effect of a sturdy cock with hard scales. This style of pour isn’t customizable through website customization options, so like their other experiment pours, it’s unique.

In medium size, Skylar has 6.7″ usable length and a maximum circumference of 6.5″, so it’s well inside my comfort zone.

Weredog’s matte texture is smoother than all other matte toys I have. In use, it’s comparable to most satin finishes. with maybe a little more drag.

The sample pack of pucks effectively showcases three of Weredog’s firmnesses and their matte finish. They’re thick enough to get a good feel for the firmnesses. Personally, I like to stack them up on my shelf and set a squishy atop the tower.

In Use

Skylar is very easy to hold. The oval-shaped base that tapers towards the edges makes it easy to keep hold of it and thrust without much hand strain.

It glides smoothly in and out. Thick toys take an effort, but Skylar is comfortably within my specs, making it thick enough to feel filling but not so much that it hinders use. The smooth sides, clean curve, and tapered tip make it easy to insert and thrust.

The underside of Skylar gets right to the G-spot. It’s perfectly curved so that a good portion of the shaft presses against the G-spot at all times, offering steady front wall stimulation with moderate pressure. The thick plate texture along the underside is surprisingly gentle; I hardly notice it at first, but as I keep going, I start to feel the staggered texture. It’s the kind of texture that I can’t exactly pick it out because it’s too smooth, but subtly increases my sensitivity and heightens overall sensation.

Switched around the other way, the wrinkled texture and small scales are even more subtle. I can’t feel it internally, even when hilted to the base. However, the dildo’s curve lends itself to rubbing against my clit if angled the right way, which teases me each time I pull out that far. It’s not comparable to the intensity of a grinder, but it’s a nice bonus to get some of that clit stim.

The strongest texture is the ridge of the head, which juts out and presses against my front wall. I love front wall stimulation and this is a whole step up in intensity from the rest of the texture yet small enough not to overwhelm. Despite the curve, the head is not big enough for consistent G-spot stimulation. While the head tapers to a rounded point, I do not get any cervix-poking discomfort unless I thrust really hard, and then only sometimes is it uncomfortable.

Skylar ticks some of my boxes with the strong curve underside, coronal ridge, and dragon fantasy, but it’s too mild to shine. The subtle texture and smooth sides make it a low-texture toy, which is not my preference, and it doesn’t make up for it with an effective shape. The head/curve combo is not good enough for either broad front wall stimulation or targeted G-spot/A-spot stimulation. As far as my own tastes go, it’s fun for a few minutes, but ultimately underwhelming and best as just a warmup toy.

K-Lube

Weredog Can next to a 60g bottle of K-Lube Powder

Weredog sells K-Lube as one of their accessories. K-Lube is a powdered lube made of PEO (polyethylene oxide) and an undisclosed preservative. Just add water to mix up your own lube with the desired level of thickness. Sounds great in theory.

It only takes the tiniest bit of powder to make lube. Seriously, a small amount goes a long way. Mix in with hot water, shake, and either use immediately or let sit 24 hours to thicken. As far as the price of lube goes, it’s an exceptional deal for volume.

Unlike other powdered lubes like J-Lube and X-Lube, K-Lube does not contain sugar, so it can be used vaginally without necessarily risking a yeast infection. However, it isn’t optimized for vaginal use. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be used, but pay attention to how you react to it, whichever way you use it (good advice for all lubes!), and consider using it in moderation.

It’s extremely sticky on my skin: My hand, my thigh, and anywhere else it gets. It’s super stringy as well. Once that lube is in my holes, I’m good to go. However, it slides right off of silicone. I’ve tried mixing it thicker and thinner, but all outcomes have difficulty sticking to silicone. It’s really weird.

I normally pour silicone on top of a toy before inserting it, which keeps my hands mostly clean, but with K-Lube, I need to get the lube all over at least one hand as I manually lube up a toy in an attempt not to have a glob of lube slide right off the toy and onto the floor. Not a fan.

My opinion on K-Lube is mixed. It’s far from ideal for vaginal use and does not work the way I want it to, but it’s super sticky on skin and a little goes a long way.

Overall

Weredog has a lineup of well designed furry toys, giving them a place alongside similarly themed shops like Neotori and Fantasy Grove. They have solid branding and character/model design. While I have some reservations regarding their relationship with Bad Dragon, I like Weredog’s creative vision and they offer quality products.

Skylar looks cool and offers a dragon-fucking fantasy, particularly with the split firmness scales, but in use, it falls short for me. I only really like the underside of the curve and the coronal ridge. It has the elements of a good design, but doesn’t lean into any of those elements well enough for me except for the curve. Weredog’s onto something with that curve and I’d love to see them add more dildos to their catalog with a strong curve—particularly if they have a broad head and/or well defined texture. (Riot, for example, looks like it may be a better fit for my tastes.)

K-Lube is a great value for the volume, but is not an ideal choice for vaginal use and sticks way better to skin than toys. If you don’t mind getting your hands sticky, it’s alright in use. I’ll be keeping mine as a backup lube only.
