When we talk about “adult content,” it’s easy to reduce conversations to shame or confidentiality. But what if we zoom in for a moment and ask a deeper question:
What are you actually looking for when you press porn?
This is what it is possible:
Discover new entanglements or interests that you don’t even know
See different body types to experience the pleasant feeling
Understand the feeling of trying new things with your partner
Explore the fantasy you will never take action in real life, but is still part of your pornographic landscape
Witnessing vocalization, action or dynamic energy that can help you express more during sex
For those who are shy or unsure how to embody their pleasure, this kind of content (especially when morally established and enthusiastically agreed) can be surprisingly empowering. Ethical adult content can be a tool for discovery, not a disconnection.
Of course, all of this depends on the context. Not everything marked as “adult” is healthy or agreed. There are serious problems with coercion, exploitation and intimate descriptions about impractical coercion, and they should also have a real conversation.
But today, I want to make room for the other side of the story: Exploring ways that can be connections. Enjoying pleasure-centric porn can help some people learn more about themselves, their voices, and their desires.
If you are curious about how to unravel this topic in your life, or explore happiness in a supportive, rooted way, I would love to speak.
