Reassessing Marriage Customs: When Tradition Goes Out of Style

Yesterday in church, I gave a sermon that talked in part about church liturgy and practices. I do a lot of explaining why I do certain things. For example, the Creed was a way to help illiterate Christians learn the basics of their faith.

Creed persisted long after nearly everyone could read it. They have become habits and are, to a large extent, perpetuated as a result. I personally like formulating axiomatic tenets, but the point is that we often start doing something for a good reason and then continue to do it when that reason no longer exists.

Can you think of anything in your marriage that you do out of habit? There used to be a good reason, but you still do it when that reason is long gone.

It’s a good idea to review your habits from time to time. Make changes or adjustments based on your current reality.
