PlayStation 30th Anniversary Watch Brings PS1 Nostalgia

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation in 1994, Hong Kong creative studio and watchmaker Anicorn has teamed up with Sony to launch a limited-edition mechanical watch that’s totally nostalgic. The Anicorn x PlayStation 30th Anniversary Mechanical Watch will only be released in 300 pieces and will be the first officially licensed PlayStation mechanical watch.

The watch will cost approximately $780 and will be available for pre-order on December 19, 2025, and will be sold directly through Anicorn. (Estimated to ship in June 2026.) In addition to the collaboration’s flagship watch, Anicorn also released the Play Symbol, a more affordable quartz model that comes in two versions: dark mode and light mode. The watches, which cost about $250 each, feature PlayStation’s signature geometric symbols that playfully slide across the watch face when shaken.

Housed in an angular 316L stainless steel case, this mechanical watch measures approximately 43mm x 48mm, is just under 12mm thick, and is finished in the same soft gray color as the original PS1 console. On the wrist, it has a sturdy, chunky appearance that makes it feel more like a piece of gaming hardware than a traditional dress watch.

The nostalgia really shows on the dial. The raised PlayStation logo is located in the center, while geometric symbols appear in the form of three-dimensional hour markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The tips of the hour and minute hands reference the original controller’s Start and Select buttons. Powering the watch is the Miyota 9039 automatic mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve, clearly visible through the sapphire case back engraved with each watch’s respective edition number.

It also comes with practical, modern specs including sapphire crystal, 50m (5ATM) water resistance and a gray FKM rubber strap with the PlayStation symbol printed on it. Each watch is packaged with a memory capsule styled after the classic PS1 memory card, which contains an NFC chip that connects to the digital space to save personal notes or memories. The watch and capsule are encased in a metal case inspired by vintage PlayStation hardware.

The enduring appeal of PlayStation

When Sony released the PlayStation in 1994, it changed the direction of gaming, moving to CD-ROM-based games rather than cartridge games, and prioritizing third-party developers like Namco to build large software libraries. It also presents the game as something stylish and sophisticated. The brand leans into the avant-garde 1990s club and rave culture, with its slogan “Live in your world, play in our world.” Its gray consoles, controllers and iconic symbols of triangles, circles, crosses and squares have become cultural shorthand for an entire generation.
