Penis plugs – a quick guide to urethral sticks

Penis plugs - a quick guide to urethral sticks

A urethral sounding involves inserting a (usually) metal rod into… well… your urethral opening (urethra). It may sound scary, but it’s a very common medical procedure. And, if it’s medical, or involves a hole in the body, you can bet the kink world is involved.

how?

While the normal sound is smooth and sometimes may have a curve at the end, the next step is the penis plug.

What is a penis plug?

Imagine a smooth rod with a ball or horn on the end… these are penis plugs. They can add extra stimulation to penetration, masturbation, or whatever play style you prefer. They’re also a better option for those who worry about “losing” their penis.

What styles/designs are available?

Besides the flared base (which is safer), there are many options…

Texture – Irritating bumps or ridges

Rod with ring – Easy to retract

Hollow Rod – Convenient urination

Ring or lock – If you want to add a chastity element

Vibrator – External vibrators around the head of the penis or on the tip

Decorative – Jewelry or other beautiful things at the end of the staff

Inflatable – Shell can be inflated to increase expansion

What are they made of?

While many sex toys come in a variety of material options, plugs only have two options.

Medical grade stainless steel – adds to the feel of medical play, harder and easier to manipulate, but also easier to hurt yourself.

Medical grade silicone – softer, less chance of puncturing soft tissue, but also a little more difficult to handle/insert.

P.S. There are also titanium options. They are a little more expensive but are also safe. Just make sure you don’t get a knockoff or a hybrid.

Both of these are non-porous, easy to clean and sterilize, and not harmful to the body (as long as you stick with higher quality materials – not “nickel plated” or “silicone blends”). Also, some people might recommend using a thermometer or knitting needles…

No…

It just doesn’t work.

Stick with products that were actually made for the show.
