Penis Extenders – Fact vs Fiction So You Make The Safest

penis pump, penis extender, penis sleeve

Before we dive in, it’s important to remind all of you wonderful readers that no one on this end (even me) is a medical professional. This is just a comprehensive mountain of information for the sake of curiosity or for those wanting to know more before talking to a doctor. So, don’t take any of the following as actionable medical advice – or I’ll come take your extender away. Naughty, naughty!

Penis Extenders vs Penis Pumps vs Penis Sleeves

From left to right – pump, extender, sleeve

This is the part where people can get confused. Mainly because two of these terms are often interchanged (specifically a penis extender versus a penis sleeve).  In today’s article, we’re talking about the first one. But here’s a quick explanation of them all. You know … for educational purposes.

Penis Extenders

These are also called penile traction devices and they can actually be recommended by doctors for specific problems. They consist of two rings and extension arms.

Penis Pumps

These big boys (AKA vacuum erection devices VEDs) are those long tubes you stick your willy in and pump to create a vacuum. They can help men get and maintain an erection (sometimes with the help of a cock ring). Some men use it to make their wieners larger. But doctors will only suggest them for medical reasons.

Penis Sleeves

Think of a silicone or TPE cover for your little man. They’re hollow, you insert yourself, and then secure them in place with a ring that goes around your testicles. It’s an easy and safe way to add length and girth without any side effects (unless you’re allergic to the material, just get body-safe silicone and you’re good). Plus, you can get them with different textures and designs. So if you’re partner has a tentacle fantasy, you’re good to go. So, Exactly What is a Penis Extender?

Phallosan Forte

It’s “a mechanical, traction device that stretches the human penis in the flaccid state to make it longer.”  Designs vary depending on the manufacturer, but the general premise is the same.

  1. The Base or Attachment System – This is the part that secures the entire thing to the base of the shaft, sometimes called the “basal ring”.
  2. The Adjustable Rod or Extension System –It’s the section that gradually and gently increases or decreases the tension. You’ll mostly see this as metal arms or a tube that run along the sides of your penis.
  3. Control Mechanism – All the knobs, screws, and whatnot to adjust the entire penis extender.
  4. The Head Ring or Headpiece – to create tension, you need two fixed points. On the other side, there is a ring or hold that will fit snuggly but comfortably just below the head.

How Do Penis Extenders Work?

Well, if you look at it in the simplest way possible, a penile traction device literally stretches out a flaccid penis to try to add a few centimeters of length, even a bit of girth.

Out of all the other stuff sold out there that promises to make you enormous, penis extenders are one of the few that actually give real results (and of course, I’m adding a disclaimer you’ll read about later).

The idea is based on cell duplication – “a natural biological process that leads to muscular hypertrophy.” Think of when you work out. The strain on the muscles causes microscopic tears and then our bodies make more cells to repair the rips. This is how we build muscle.

Penis Extenders for Peyronie’s Disease

diagram of Peyronie's Disease

A boiled-down definition of Peyronie’s Disease (pay-roe-NEEZ) is “curved penis.” And not in a small way (meaning it’s normal to have a bit of a curve). It’s a buildup of scar tissue, causing the penis to bend or curve during erections. This scar tissue interferes with the flexibility and stretching of the tissues in that area.

Some people don’t even notice their symptoms until they have an erection. Then they could have erectile dysfunction, lumps in the penis, “waist-like or narrowed bottleneck areas” during erections, or pain. Other symptoms can include the shortening of the member or deformities.

This disease rarely goes away on its own and often gets worse with time. But, mind-blowing fact, this is what the penis extender was originally invented for – to treat Peyronie’s!

Mayo Clinic – It’s a bit of a dry video but lots of useful information.

Are Penis Extender Results a Real Thing?

Remember the disclaimer I talked about before? Here’s where it comes in – with a few others tossed in for good measure.

First, they absolutely do work as a Peyronie’s Disease treatment. But, as you can imagine, anything that gives off a whiff of making things larger down there, you can bet sex companies all over the world are going to jump on that. So, of course, now, we have countless products out there promising to make you enormous, so all the ladies and/or men will come flocking to you and your god-like sexual aura.

But let’s be real. Do they work to make you bigger? Yes … maybe. But not in the ways you’re hoping for.

Studies On Penile Traction Devices

There have been some studies around this device when it comes to giving guys more in the downstairs department. One study showed some promising preliminary results. After a group of men wore an extender for three months for 4-6 hours a day, they found the average length was longer by 1.5 cm.

In a 2015 study, 193 men wore a penis extender for 4-6 hours daily for a period of 6 months. After that time, the researchers found a mean increase between 0.9 and 2.5 cm (0.3-0.9″) in flaccid penis length.

According to a new 2020 systematic review of studies examining penis lengthening methods, extenders were able to increase flaccid penis length by less than 2 cm (0.7″).

On the other hand, some experts have accused some studies of being biased in picking their test subjects to gain the results they specifically wanted.

So, all in all, there’s no real answer in the “yes” category. There’s still so much research going on and more to be had before anyone knows the benefits and risks that come with using a penis extender to make yourself bigger.

Risks, Benefits, & Drawbacks

Remember, I’m no doctor. But in terms of having a longer and thicker penis, these devices should be relatively safer than the other stuff out there – like the BS pills and creams.

But remember not every penis extender out there is built safely. Some might end up hurting you. So, do your research and please talk to your doctor first. At least they can tell you if the one you want is safe and give you directions on how to use it the right way.

Risks of penis extenders include:

  • Bruising
  • Nerve damage
  • Blood clots
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Fractured penis
  • Discomfort or pain during use
  • Skin irritation
  • Numbness or cold flesh
  • Conditions like hemophilia, incontinence, or a history of surgeries may increase your risk of injury

The best way to minimize your risk is to:

  • Avoid applying traction that you can’t handle.
  • Don’t use it for longer/more frequently than specified in your manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Listen to your body and stop using it if something doesn’t feel right.
  • Don’t use it too aggressively or overnight.
  • Know if you have any medical conditions that restrict you from using one.

Benefits of using one include:

  • You could gain length (but only a couple of centimeters, so keep that in mind).
  • Helping with micro-penises (any stretched penis shorter than 3.67 inches in adults).
  • Preserving length after surgery (some procedures can cause shrinkage).
  • Stronger and firmer erections for those getting older.
  • Increased confidence.

The Drawbacks of using a penis extender:

  • Pain and Discomfort – After all, you’re stretching your ding-dong. Think of how painful it is after going to the gym. It won’t be agonizing (that’s when you stop and seek help). And, if I can quote one of my favorite comparisons, “Imagine trying to hold a yoga pose for 4–6 hours at a time; that’s what your penis is basically doing all day.”
  • It Messes With Your Day – Even if the designs are discreet, it’s still going to be a pain in the ass to wear while you’re out and about. Your routine will certainly be affected. Even certain body movements you take for granted might become awkward.
  • No Fashionista Moments – Your wardrobe is greatly reduced. The only options will be loose sweatpants or loose shorts, and absolutely nothing tight.
  • You Might be Disappointed – These things don’t always work. Not everyone will get even the few centimeters these things advertise.

How To Use a Penis Extender – The Right Way

Well, the best way would be to talk to a doctor (and yes, I’m going to beat this point home until everyone’s bum is sore). But here are some general tips that most sites agree on…

  • Never use traction you can’t handle.
  • Don’t use it for longer/more frequently than the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If something feels wrong, listen to your body, and stop.
  • Never use one overnight or aggressively.
  • Don’t expect immediate results.
  • Never stretch with an erect penis. It should always be flaccid.
  • Lube is essential (like silicone or petroleum jelly) to make things more comfortable.
  • Never do stretching exercises more than once a day (or twice if medically recommended).
  • Stop immediately if you feel real pain.
  • Go to the hospital if you feel things have gone wrong.

When Will I Notice Results?

Outcomes should be measured in months, not days or weeks. The first growth/gain in the first month will only be millimeters.  It’s going to take at least 2-3 months to see something. Some people use them for 5-6 months to try to gain an inch. But all of this varies depending on the person. As I mentioned above, there might be zero changes.

A Note on Penis Size

This one’s just for fun, but also a good note on how communication is vital for sexual pleasure. YouTube/ Hayley Morris

Did you know the average flaccid penis is 9.16 cm (3.61 inches) in length? And the average erect penis is 13.12 cm (5.16 inches) long. All this bragging by other guys or what people see in porn can be very damaging to guys’ mindsets.

Some will say “size matters” – and yes, there are people out there who love a huge one. But there are also those who don’t. Besides, if we remember basic female anatomy, the g-spot isn’t that far in the vaginal canal. And if you’re into other guys, most of the nerve endings are around the anus. Plus, all of this isn’t even counting ALL the other erogenous zones.

Most people count sexual prowess only by size and penetration. But the real fact is that most women don’t orgasm that way. And anal sex beginners can’t handle enormous shlongs.

So, if you’re around 5 inches, you’re fine and don’t really need an extender. But if you’re smaller (or REALLY smaller) and you mentally just can’t deal with it. Then do it the right way – with the help of a doctor who specializes in these things.

Things to Consider Before You Buy

Why do you really want one?

If it’s for confidence reasons, maybe take a step back and take some time to think and gain perspective. Even better, learn how to communicate with your partner(s) in bed. Because that’s how you become a sex god.

Can my issues be solved in other ways?

Some forms of therapy can work wonders if the desire to use a penis stretcher is linked to confidence or fear. And for anyone cringing, rolling their eyes, or curling up their noses at the idea of mental health help – don’t. We’re living in the modern world where caring for the body AND mind is standard.

Will a penis sleeve be a better option?

They’re safer, easier to maintain, and let you choose any penis length and girth – not to mention some out-of-this-world textures and shapes you’ll never get with any extender.

Is it a good model?

What is the end ring made of? Look up “penis extender reviews” about the one you want – what do they say? Does it have good control mechanisms? Look at everything going on with the model you’re interested in (including some comparison research) before you buy.

Does it look easy to clean?

This goes for anything device (sexual or not) that’s going to be around your nether bits for a while. All those nooks and crannies can house sweat and bacteria. And we don’t want things growing down there that shouldn’t be.

What’s your budget?

It’s hard to gauge what a reasonable price is. But after some data digging you’ll probably have a good idea of the average price tag. Then, you can figure out what your bank account can afford.

When should I see a doctor about using a penis extender?

Preferably before you even look at buying one. But if you’re using one and see some of the “risks” mentioned earlier, then definitely go to an ER. Also, if you think you have Peyronie’s Disease, then definitely seek a professional.

Are there other non-surgical options to enhance or help penis size?

You’re thinking about all those lotions and potions out there? Well, there is jelqing (manual stretching exercises), penis pumps, ED rings or cock rings, and penile extenders.

Can I use water-based lube?

You can, but it will dry out quickly and you’ll have to reapply. That’s why silicon or petroleum jelly is better.

Do I need a prescription for a penis extender?

If it’s for actual medical reasons, the doctor will prescribe a real one for you. If you’re just shopping on your own, no.

Is there such a thing as a vibrating penis extender?

No, this is terminology confusion. That would be a vibrating penis SLEEVE.

Is there an age restriction to use penis extenders?

For personal use, these are 18+ purchases. But there are Peyronie’s cases (or other medical issues) in younger individuals that require the use of one. In that case, it’s a prescription device.

Do I need to pull my foreskin back?

Yes, the end band needs something to anchor to. Some models offer protective padding for this area.

Are the results permanent?

If they do occur, as far as I’ve read, yes. But don’t quote me. That’s a question for an expert.

What are some of the best penis extenders?

It’s hard to gauge, but after a quick search, many sites agreed on these brands – QuickExtenderPRO, Phallosan Forte, Jes-Extender, SizeGenetics, PeniMaster PRO, and Male Edge

Granted, there is A LOT of information to take in. Not to mention a mountain of external research if you really want to buy one. And even though this article leans towards the (you probably shouldn’t) side, there are circumstances where penis extenders are necessary. So, take a little to think about it before moving on. And, most importantly, take care of yourself!
