Nerds about notebooks! - Girls' Juice

I really like notebooks. Recently, it became even more obvious to me when I packed up all my stuff and moved to New York. Not only are there dozens of notebooks (either empty or filled) to be shipped to our new place, but I also have a bunch of them Current I need a spin that I carry with me! Oh, the life of a notebook nerd…

I know there are other nerds like this that read this site (hi!), so today I want to tell you some of my current laptop “system” (if it can be called): what I’m using, and what I’m using, and the little little peeks that everyone uses. Let’s play together!

notebook: Big Domination of Hardcover Merskin
It is used for: Diary, emotional processing, sales of words about crushing, and more.

I’ve been using these specific Moleskine laptops as my daily journals (!!!) since 2007, and I’ve filled dozens of them at the time. Seeing them all lined up on the shelf, their dates were very satisfying, their dates marked Sharphie on their thorns.

My journal is where I deal with unfiltered thoughts and feelings about everything from dating to sex, health to friendship to geopolitics. I don’t usually publish diary entries, but I often reply to write later when I write more polished works because they have original notes in my direct emotional reaction to almost everything that happens to me.

I always decorate the cover of my diary, so everyone has their own unique look, theoretically the thoughts/feels/doing of the times I document in it. My current diary has a rainbow heart sticker (happy belated pride!), an Oliver Hibert Skull sticker (I am now fascinated by his art, especially his tarot deck), and the “Never Post” sticker I got on Xoxo Fest, which can remind you that you will usually better record your personal thoughts than recommending them. (Like I said, not like me…) There is also an njoy eleven sticker on the back of this one, which I probably picked up at the Njoy stall in Wood Hall a few years ago.

notebook: The soft Mooreskin Wollander of the big domination
It is used for: Work instructions

Moleskine’s “Volant” notebook is a thin, soft paper I first used when I was in journalism. They can ride on the bottom of my tote, bend over and scratch and so on. I love that they come in cute limited edition colors. I think this Kelly Green is a gift from my brother and he knows me well.

Today, I use Volants for work-related process notes, such as the detailed idea of my review of sex toys while testing them. I’m also taking notes here while recording podcasts; it helps me listen better and stick to short-lived thoughts/questions that are easy to fly out of my brain if I don’t write them down immediately. (Above are some notes I’m with male sex scholar Dr. Kris Taylor last year on porn addiction and Nofap because you’re wondering why its hell says phrases like “Chad behavior” and “sex” and “sex” and “sex”…

notebook: Midori Cotton Reporter + Live Note Memo
What are they for: Romantic novel drawing + random ideas

This elegant white Midori notebook is a gift from my wife. It has gorgeous paper, its signature softness with cotton fiber formula. I usually prefer lined pages over blank pages (that’s how you know I’m a writer rather than a visual artist!), but blanks help when you brainstorm, for example, like a romantic novel! The first (very rough) novel of my first (very rough) novel has over 50,000 drafts, and the plans I made in this notebook have kept me so far away.

Relatedly, when I go out I put a small outdoor notes book in my bag where I write down new ideas related to me primarily on the subway or anything else – but sometimes I can also use it for other random notes as needed, such as when I recently participated in a music improvisation. This special notebook is a limited edition, especially special for attendees at Xoxo Fest 2024; its cover is sunny blue, peeking through the trees of the festival in Washington Heights in Portland. Cute!

notebook: Black Wings X George Harrison Notebook
It is used for: Song creation

Another gift from my wonderful and thoughtful wife! Once I read Blackwin’s announcement, I was interested in this notebook. They worked with George Harrison’s family to pay tribute to him and designed the songwriting notebook. It is adorned with stunning images of his iconic guitar. The pages are blank, the notebook comes with transparent plastic inserts that can be used as a guide if you want to draw a musician or guitar chord chart. Everything is considerate!

For most of my Songaweek project (I’m in Grade 3 now!), I’ll make songs wherever possible: in my diary, in the notes app on the phone, on the napkins at my local bar, and so on. Until today, if I had a good song idea, I had to write it right away somewhere, no matter where I am, no matter where I am, no matter where I am, no matter where I am, no matter where I am, not always so, so the song is not always like this – start In this notebook, but I tend to do heavy lyrical editing here finishing A song (or, as Diane Warren puts it, “fall that song to the ground”). By the way, if you’re curious about the lyrics in the picture above, it’s a country song I wrote about period sex!

I’ve also kept a big list of song ideas or potential song titles/taglines/etc. They were all scattered across multiple mediums before, and I can’t even tell you how helpful it would be to put them all in one place – which means I have something Starting every week, not just a blank page staring at me. This is what I mean when I say writing tools (such as notebooks) are not magic and won’t make you a better writer, but they can inspire you to write more often and can help you organize your mind better, which usually leads to better writing. At least More Writing…some of them will be good, sure!

notebook: Leuchtturm1917 journalist style notepad
It is used for: Notes of movies, TV shows and dialogues

Probably my favorite notebook. It has super smooth paper, has fun colors, and is easy to fit most wallets and pockets. I also like the versatility of journalist-style notebooks: Whether you sit at a desk, lying in a movie theater or walking down the street, their hard covers and vertical directions can be easily written on them.

Many of the movies and TV shows I watch these days take notes here. It can help me pay more attention if I want to remember my impression of some kind of media, write it later, or talk about it with friends, etc. Four weddings and funerals (Cute; Love Hugh Grant!) Then there are some plots Kevin can do it himself (Low-key modern feminist masterpiece). Always my notes only About the media itself, but My reaction In the media – So, this notebook is arguably packed with as many personal insights as my diary, although the expression is different!

I sometimes take notes here on phone/Zoom Call/ etc. With friends or partners, because (as mentioned earlier) the form of journalist style is perfect for improvisational recordings, no matter where I am. For comments on the conversation, please refer to the future diary when it will be performed. These notepads conveniently have a built-in directory near the front, so I can always do it when I need to find something specific. Oh my God, isn’t a notebook a great technology?
