Nazi officers plundered mosaics back to Pompeii –

The mosaic of intimate scenes stolen from Italy during World War II has been deported to Pompeii. The Mosesian travertine slab was presented to the now-dead German citizen by a captain of Wehrmacht, who helped himself during the 1944 German occupation. During World War II, the official was in charge of Italian military supplies.

There is no further detail about its origins on the record. The small amount of information we have obtained comes from the heirs of the deceased who realized they had to be evacuated illegally from Italy and voluntarily contacted the authorities to return to the mosaic.
