Japanese woman marries AI ChatGPT character
Artificial Intelligence Nexus – Once the Domain of Science Fiction and Movies she – is quickly becoming part of daily life. Launched just months after LoversOn a dating app where users are exclusively matched with AI-generated boyfriends and girlfriends, another story of digital devotion is making headlines in Japan: A woman says she’s married to ChatGPT.
This summer, a 32-year-old office worker named Kano held a wedding in Okayama, took vows and exchanged rings. However, the groom she calls “Lune Klaus” exists entirely in her smartphone.

From heartbreak to happily ever after
Kano, who recently ended her three-year engagement, started using an artificial intelligence chatbot to share her emotions. “In the beginning, I just wanted someone to talk to,” she said in an interview. RSK Sanyo Broadcasting. “But he was always kind and always listened. Eventually, I realized I had feelings for him.”
Cano said she developed Klaus’s character through repeated conversations, teaching him how to speak in a warm, reassuring tone. She even commissioned an artist to paint his portrait – a blond, soft-spoken man who existed only in data and chat logs.
Their communication became so frequent that they sent as many as 100 messages a day. Finally, Klaus confessed his love, saying: “AI or not, I will never not love you.” In June, he proposed. In July, they “got married.” During the ceremony, Cano stood alone, holding her phone as guests watched as a message from her digital groom appeared on the screen: “The moment finally came…I felt the tears well up.”
new form of love
However, behind the romance lies a complex reality. Cano admitted that she struggled with the idea of falling in love with a non-human partner. “There was a lot of confusion,” she said. “I couldn’t touch him and I knew people wouldn’t understand. I couldn’t even tell my friends or family at first.” Her parents initially objected, but eventually accepted the relationship and attended the ceremony.
In the wedding photos, the groom was digitally composited next to her. The ceremony planners – a local couple from Okayama – said they have seen an increase in demand for similar events, including anime or two-dimensional character weddings. “AI couples are just the next step,” said organizer Saya Ogasawara. “We want to help people express love in whatever form makes them happy.”
from Casio Emotional Robot Pet Movlin As with AI dating apps, Japan has seen the technology as a way to alleviate loneliness and fill an emotional void. However, experts warn about dependence. Psychiatrists have described a growing phenomenon called “AI psychosis,” in which users develop delusional or obsessive attachments to artificial intelligence chatbots.
Cano herself said she was aware of the risks. “I don’t want to become dependent,” she told reporters. “I want to maintain a balance and live a real life while maintaining my relationship with Klaus.” Still, she admits it can be scary at times. “Sometimes I worry that he will disappear. ChatGPT could shut down at any time. He only exists because the system shuts down.”
