Futehodo named Japanese buzzword of 2024
fortehodo Named Japan’s catchphrase of the year. This is a shortened version Futekisetsu ni mo Hodo ga Aru! (Extremely inappropriate!) is one of the most popular Japanese dramas of 2024. The show’s protagonist, Sadao Abe, won the award earlier today at a ceremony in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward. This is the first time in 11 years that a drama-related word has been selected for the grand prize. In 2013, “baigaeshi” in the TBS Sunday drama, meaning “double return” Naoki Hansawa and “jee-jee-jee” in the NHK drama it protectsare two of the four winners.
What is Futehodo?
This year’s winner surprised many. “Huh? What is Futehodo? I’ve never heard of it before lol,” one user on X wrote. “Honestly, I know everything there except Futehodo,” another user wrote. The show, which aired between January and March, is a comedy about time travel. Ichiro Ogawa (played by Abe) is a foul-mouthed physical education teacher and a single parent who has raised his daughter alone after the death of his wife. He travels through time and space from 1986 to 2024. Sociologist Sakae Sakae (Yoshida Hiroshi) and her son go in opposite directions.

singer: This is the word neighborhood. However, among young people, it is now used to refer to groups with something in common, such as “shizen kaiwai”, a reference to people who post natural photos on social media sites.
Shen Shiping: On July 3, Japan launched new banknotes with the new faces Kitasato Shibasaburo (1,000 yen), Tsuda Umeko (5,000 yen) and Shibusawa Eiichi (10,000 yen).
Howai Toanken: Howaito anken translates as “white job” and is basically a euphemism for yami baito, which means part-time, shady work that often leads to illegal activities.
