Forty Years of Strength: How God Overcomes Difficulties in Our Marriage

Today, Lori and I celebrate our fortieth wedding anniversary. Her comment to me yesterday was: “They say this won’t last”. I suspect many people think so, even if they don’t say it.

Honestly, there’s good reason to think this way. She had recently been divorced from a bad marriage. I was not prepared to be a stepfather to a six-year-old. Although I did have a decent job, the income was not high for a family of three. Then there are the issues that each of us has faced but not dealt with. Including some we didn’t even know we had.

The first two years were rough, to put it mildly. We had a lot of problems and couldn’t find the help we needed from the church. But only one thing is good for us: God. We both follow Jesus seriously and we know He will let us take care of our affairs and build a great marriage. With His grace and help, it did happen.

What God has done for us, He can and will do for you. The man said our marriage was doomed. God said no.

God is right.
