Shame is the primary emotion when it comes to sex and porn addiction.
Numerous studies show that not talking about shame is often more damaging than the actual incident that caused it. In other words, it’s not any specific shameful event, belief, or feeling that draws us into our obsessive pursuit of escape, it’s our shame that goes unaddressed and unprocessed. When shameful events, beliefs and feelings are discussed openly, even years after the fact, they lose their power. Along with this, sex and porn addiction also loses its power.
