FF: Testosterone replacement therapy: combining the facts with

When I wrote this article more than a decade ago, I said, “There has been a lot of hype about testosterone over the past few years. I say hype because the claims were well ahead of the science.”

Science has basically caught up, so I made changes accordingly.

Some claim that testosterone replacement therapy is the next best thing to the fountain of youth. You gain muscle, you lose weight, and your sex drive and function are back to what they were when you were twenty. You sleep better, your depression disappears, you have more energy, you think clearer, and you can jump over tall buildings in one bound. At best, these are exaggerations of the effects seen. Some man.

There doesn’t appear to be a simple “dose-related” effect of testosterone, meaning you can’t get the effects of more testosterone simply by having more testosterone in your body. Beyond a certain level, adding more does no good and actually causes harm. Research shows that among men with testosterone levels in the normal range, actual levels have nothing to do with sexual desire or sexual frequency. If low T affects your erections, then low T can make you less interested in sex.

A big problem is that we don’t know what “normal” levels mean. Look at two men with identical testosterone levels, and one shows signs of low testosterone while the other does not. first one possible benefits from testosterone supplementation while the second does not.

By 2024, the benefits appear to outweigh the risks for most men. This is where your doctor comes into play. You can get your testosterone prescription online without having to provide much information. Please don’t do this. While it’s quick and won’t be embarrassing, you’re bypassing the safety of dealing with a doctor who understands your unique health situation.

What about women? Testosterone is considered a good remedy for low libido in women, especially postmenopausal women. The truth is, an excellent study found that higher testosterone levels in women caused them to be more likely to masturbate, but less likely to have sex with their partners. No one has done a study to see if give Testosterone in women increases their desire to masturbate, but that seems to be the case. This is not the result most men want! Recent studies have found that low levels of testosterone are fairly safe for women, but I still can’t find conclusive evidence that it leads to more or better sex.
