“Retinoic acid or retinaminoids on the counter are the primary treatment for acne,” said Dr. Campbell. Use pea-sized amounts two to three times a week. If your skin is sensitive or dry, place a moisturizer on top after applying a retinoid.

Note: Retinoids like remove the top layer of dead skin cells, so they do not clog the holes. Using them will make your skin sensitive to sunlight, so apply a broad spectrum sunscreen every day to protect your complexion.
