Children and parents around Tokyo Station scrambled to get their hands on Captain Pikachu stamps. You may have felt the excitement at last year’s Pokémon Stamp Rally in Yokohama to celebrate the Pokémon World Championships.

Stamp rallies like this one are extremely popular and are a great opportunity for everyone to explore a variety of different train stations and interact with new communities while collecting stamps of their favorite Pokemon. Participants can also win prizes by completing courses. There are different stage levels and Shinkansen routes that you can participate in to win different prizes. Here is your ultimate guide to navigating a rally with ease.

Station Map

There are 36 character stamps in total at various JR East train stations. Below is a list of all participating stations on the map, as well as a guide to where to find the character stamps.

  • Akabane Station (Ceruledge/Soubureizu): Outside the North Exit Ticket Gate, near the green window
  • Ageo Station (Toxtricity/Sutorinda): Outside the ticket gate, near the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office

Phase 1

To start Phase 1, you can pick up a free stamp booklet at the booklet displays at various JR stations. Collect any six different character stamps from any of the 36 participating stations. Once you have collected six stamps, submit your booklet to a NewDays target store. There are nine NewDays target stores in total, and you must submit your booklet at these participating locations to receive your prize. Conveniently, most of these stores are located inside stations, usually near the stamping area.

You will receive an exclusive card featuring Floragato/Nyarote and Riko, a postcard, and the Phase 2 and Phase 3 stamp booklets.

You can also purchase exclusive Pokemon products at NewDays convenience stores. The limited edition stamp book comes with a train pass box featuring Captain Pikachu and the Yamate Train.

This special stamp booklet allows participants to collect all stamps in a row without having to exchange their booklets after the first phase. ¥2,420 and will be sold during the rally until September 1. Other NewDays Pokemon merchandise includes die-cut fans and figures.

Phase 2

For Phase 2, you need to collect 12 more stamps in the new booklet. However, the stamps collected in Phase 1 can be cut and pasted into the new booklet, so you only need 6 new stamps. However, if your goal is to get the maximum reward, you need to get 12 new characters in order to get all 36 characters.

Once you have collected the required stamps, go to the Tokyo Station counter to claim your next prize. You will receive a unique lanyard and 50 serial codes that can be used to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Electronic games.

Captain Pikachu paper visors will be distributed at the Tokyo Station finish counter, located next to the NewDays Gransta Marunouchi store, to help participants block out the sun while exploring the rally route.

Phase 3

To become the Ultimate Pokemon Master, you must capture all 36 Pokemon! If you have collected all 36 stamps in your booklet, bring it to the Target counter at Tokyo Station to receive an exclusive Terastal Training Achievement Certificate.

Additional Stage

This rally’s special bonus stage goes beyond the Tokyo metropolitan area! You can collect stamps of the six heroes and Terapagos at Shinkansen stations.Or, get your car stamped with the “Black Rayquaza” seal at Morioka Station or Yamagata Station within a limited time.

  • Sendai Station (Lapras/Rapurasu): Left side of the Shinkansen Central Exit
  • Morioka Station (Terapagos/Terapagosu): Outside the South Ticket Gate
  • Yamagata Station (Arbolivia/Oribia): 2F outside the Shinkansen ticket gate

Only one stamp is required for Shinkansen routes. Show your special Shinkansen stamp at the terminal counter at Tokyo Station and you will receive an exclusive medal with a black Rayquaza on it.

To avoid going to Tokyo Station for each stage, you can submit the Stage 2, Stage 3, and Extra Stage stamps at the same time if you wish.

Pokemon Themed Train

Some trains will be transformed with a Pokemon theme. From July 29, the Yamanote Line will be themed with Floragato/Nyarote, the Keihin-Tohoku Line will be themed with Quaxly/Kuwassu, and the Chuo Line will be themed with Fuecoco/Hogeta. These special trains will be themed until the end of August.

The Yamagata Shinkansen E8 series, which debuts in March 2024, will also be decorated with Captan Pikachu.
