Edible body paint – should you buy it or make it yourself?

Applying edible body paint to your partner is always on the top ten lists of “things to make your sex life more exciting” or “sexy things to do for Valentine’s Day,” and even I’ve recommended this idea.

However…

Do you really want to use that body paint? After all, you wouldn’t just apply a few drops of paint to your partner.

expected outcome

It’s important to remember that you’re not going to paint any Picasso or Michelangelo-style paintings on your partner’s skin—these products aren’t made for that. You’re after the sensual experience of brushing paint onto your body, and the thrill of licking it off.

Going the commercial route

Here are some of the products I found…

The problem with most of these products is that it’s hard to find out what’s in them. After reading a few reviews, I also found that the brushes were “not very good” and the actual pigment was either too thin or (in the case of pens) too sticky. However, I also saw that a lot of people still liked them.

Who would like these?

  • People who want interesting packaging as gifts (serious or funny)
  • People who can’t cook
  • People who want to make things fun in a light way
  • People who may like splosing

  • People who don’t like artificial flavors

Go the DIY route

Another way is to make your own—and it doesn’t have to be with traditional chocolate. Just go to your local baking section and choose your colors, flavors, and candy bars (the kind that melt in a double boiler).

Who would like these?

  • People who like to know/control the ingredients
  • I like people of higher quality
  • People who want a specific consistency/feeling
  • People who like flavors other than chocolate
  • People who like to give DIY items as gifts

Who doesn’t like these?

  • People who don’t have much time
  • People with limited cooking skills

Homemade or cheap ideas

  • Portion vanilla pudding (boxed) into small cups and add colouring and flavouring.
  • Melt the chocolate with a little milk or butter in the microwave
  • Melt the milk chocolate chips for baking and add flavoring and coloring
  • Store-bought chocolate, caramel, or strawberry syrup

Body painting recipes

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, chopped
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 to 3 drops Orange Vitality or Tangerine Vitality essential oil

or

  • 8 ounces white chocolate chunks, chopped
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 to 3 drops Peppermint Vitality essential oil

or

  • 8 ounces dark chocolate chunks, chopped
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 to 3 drops Lavender Vitality essential oil

instruct

In a small saucepan, add the chopped chocolate and heavy cream and simmer over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted together.

Stir in a few drops of essential oil, season, and turn off heat. Allow to return to room temperature.

Use with a brush or your fingers.

warn – Remember, no matter what kind of paint you use, never put it in your vagina – it can cause infection.

In the end, I’m all for DIY (or something as natural as possible), but I can also see the appeal of something simple, commercial. In the end, if you don’t have anything else, just use honey
