Even the worst parts of your life have contributed to your growth, so you can even be grateful for those moments.
When we’re just beginning the process of recovery and healing, our lives are usually a mess. Our relationships, finances, work lives, and even our freedom may be in jeopardy. So it’s not surprising that when we’re asked to have an attitude of gratitude, we sometimes struggle. We simply can’t find anything to be grateful for. In this case, we should start with one thought: I’m grateful to be sexually sober at this moment. Then we can add small, seemingly silly things—the sun is shining, there’s food in my pantry, I have a roof over my head, and so on. Over time, with practice, finding things to be grateful for will get easier, as will staying sober.
Today’s Task
Ask yourself if you are glad you are sober at this moment.
