Many people know me from the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.” I designed a complete set of sex toys for all three of those movies.

At first, the film crew made a list and asked me to make 10 props. After my partner translated the English script to me over and over again, I felt that it wasn’t enough, so I took the initiative to add whips and other props. The author thought it was pretty good and added some plot points based on my design.

I entered the sex toy industry in the 2000s. Before that, I got married, had children, and worked as a doctor in a hospital in northeast China. I know the structure of the human body very well, so I strictly adhere to ergonomics in my design.

For example, the principle of the Mouth Ball is to block the mouth so that no sound can be emitted. I have designed different sizes, ranging from 3.8cm to 5cm, and enthusiasts can choose according to the size of their mouth.

The eye mask should completely block out light so that you can enjoy it in complete darkness. This is related to the length and tightness of the elastic bands on both sides. You can also thread a piece of wire into the bottom edge of the eye mask and it will fit snugly around your nose.

At first, I wondered: what does this have to do with fun? Later, I was convinced by a young friend and started designing things that young people like.

When I first entered the industry, I worked in a factory in Shenzhen. There is a sex toy designer in the factory who came back from abroad. At first, he was not willing to teach me. He covered the drawings as soon as he saw me enter the room. I bought him apples today and fed him tomorrow. Little by little, he began to teach me the most basic things.

In 2005, I met sexologist Li Yinhe at the first Shanghai International Adult Expo, and I chatted with her at every expo after that. She told everyone, from the perspective of medicine and sexology, that two things are inevitable in human life, one is food and the other is sex, so why should we avoid talking about sex?

At that time, I was working alone in the sex industry. She came to my booth and took a look, and encouraged me by saying that there are not many people making sex toys in China, so you have opened a window for everyone. I gained confidence instantly.

This kind of SM behavior has existed in China and even in all countries of the world throughout history. It was not until European royal nobles first wrote it down more than 200 years ago that ordinary people saw it and realized that it was okay, so they gradually accepted it.

I think it’s a release of love that stimulates mutual feelings through sight, hearing, pain, touch and shame. It’s not violent or dirty, as many people think.

I have been in the industry for over 20 years and have fans who have used my designs in over 20 countries around the world. In shopping malls in Japan, the things I designed must be the most exposed.

The overseas sex industry is relatively complete today, but domestically it has only developed relatively rapidly in the past three years. Especially those born after 1995 express their individuality more and do these things without much burden. Sex toys are their daily life supplement.

I only told my family about my work in the past two years. I was afraid that they wouldn’t understand it before, but I didn’t expect everyone to be very supportive after I said it. My son also contacted his friends who graduated from Lumei and drew several paintings showing the beauty of the body and put them in my studio.

In the stereotype, those who indulge in sex toys are usually young people. Many people called me sister after adding me. I asked what I called her. My aunt is 66 years old. They were all surprised and said, Auntie, you are quite fashionable.

Living alone in Shenzhen, Lisa maintains good living conditions

I have a young mentality and a carefree personality, a typical northeast woman. I have lived alone in Shenzhen for more than 20 years, I have never remarried, and my son and grandson are not here. My usual hobbies are flower arrangement, traveling, and photography. Choose your clothes carefully, wear jewelry, and put on makeup every day to maintain good living conditions.

I was the first one in the studio every day and worked 12 hours. All the works are designed by myself. I don’t know how to use computers, so I draw them all by hand. Sometimes I sit on the floor and draw twenty or thirty pictures in one night. For the hospitalizations for diabetes and hypertension, I designed them from the hospital bed and gave the commands remotely by phone.

I don’t want to live the life of raising grandchildren and dancing square dances like my peers. I never thought about retiring and I was surrounded by young people who pushed me to move forward. I hope to work until I’m 90.
