It’s that time of year again, my babies — not only is it October National Breast Cancer Awareness Monthbut since around 2011, October 13th has been celebrated as No Bra Day.
The goal of No Bra Day, you ask? To raise awareness about the importance of knowing how to wear a bra. breast self-examsbe able to recognize the breast cancer symptomsand encouraging women to participate regularly breast cancer screeningPeople with breasts are encouraged to not wear a bra in order to draw attention to and encourage all of the above.
Breast Cancer Risk: Quick Facts

How “No Bra Day” Began
The very first incarnation of No Bra Day was a medical event organized in 2011 by a Toronto plastic surgeon. The goal of the event, called BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day, was to educate breast cancer survivors, many of whom face dealing with self-image issues-about their reconstructive surgery options.
The day was later renamed by an anonymous user as “No Bra Day.” Social media users are encouraged to post photos with the hashtag #nobraday to encourage women to appreciate going braless and learn more about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Some users are also encouraging women to post photos of themselves without a bra.
