Ancient Sabina Church seen from a new perspective -

All’Aventino, one of Rome’s oldest churches, has a new lighting system that literally sees new revelations of the oldest elements in its architecture.

Built near the temple of Juno Regina in the early 5th century, Santa Sabina is located on the Aventine Mountain in Rome, it is the oldest cathedral in Rome, which preserves its original Roman secular cathedral (a building used for public functions, such as courts and assembly courts): Ancient Sabina Church seen from a new perspective - Santa Sabina PortalRectangular plan with plunger central hall, aisles on both sides and semicircular APSE. Its 24 columns are excerpted from the Temple of Juno Regina. Its original wooden doors feature carved panels from 430 AD, which include one of the earliest descriptions of Christ’s Crucifixion, the first publicly displayed Crucifixion. Above the inner door of the church is the original inlay inscription in the Latin hexamer.

Since then, the church has changed and increased the church, but unlike many other ancient churches in Rome, Santa Sabina managed to avoid fundamental changes in the Baroque transformation. However, ancient buildings have one drawback. The tall, thick walls and small windows don’t fit in too much light, and the old spotlight system is too restrictive and inefficient to illuminate the dark.

The small projector is placed horizontally on the windowsill, illuminating the nave nave and centering the LED strip in the interior illustration, thus making the nave upper cross-navi light. The new device is positioned corresponding to the source of natural lighting to maintain (even in its lack) that light is the same as the origin of light.

Then specific lighting was retained for the side church, San Caterina and San Giacinto to highlight the most important decorative elements and have soft shrouded light.

With targeted emphasis, important elements are highlighted, such as the choir, APSE, the mosaic on the counter, the bell tower in the left nave, and finally the Narthex, a famous carved wooden door of the 5th century that retains one of the first representatives of the Crucifixion.
