I’ve been single for 15 years – here’s the sad reason I’m single

She hates looking for love.

A single person who hasn’t had a boyfriend for 15 years has said she is “scared” of dating and believes this may be the reason she will never find a partner.

Becky, a 32-year-old project manager from Bristol, UK, felt embarrassed about her long absence from a boyfriend, which led to over-analysis and insecurity, sending her into a vicious cycle of being single.

“I’ve been single for so long that I’m worried I’ll be single forever. I’ve heard so many horror stories from dating,” Becky told NeedToKnow.

“I’ve never had a man tell me they loved me. I’m not sure I knew if I was in love… I’ve been embarrassed about these things for a long time.”

The Briton was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) two years ago, which has had an impact on both her mental health and her physical health.

Becky had been single for more than a decade before she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and health issues are now another factor to consider in relationships.

“I really struggled with my mental health because I felt embarrassed about still being single, how nervous I was about telling someone on a date that I had MS, and feeling like there must be something wrong with me,” she explained.

“I kept thinking ‘I’m going to be single for the rest of my life’ and started blaming different aspects of myself because of it.”

Becky admitted it took her a while to open up and said the horror stories she heard online only added to her fears.

“I’m worried that people will judge me and I’m scared of rejection, so I try to avoid that as much as possible,” the British woman sadly said.

“I was scared to go on dates, I didn’t know what to talk about, and I ended up overanalyzing everything.”

However, Becky began opening up online and sharing her sad situation candidly – and later discovered she wasn’t as alone as she thought.

One video in particular has struck a chord, with more than 1.2 million views, more than 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments, NeedToKnow reports.

One viewer wrote: “I totally understand how you feel but hearing that we all have a significant other waiting to be discovered… I pray that you find your true partner.”

Another said: “I’ve been single around the same time and thought ‘is this what the next 40 years will be like’ at least 5 times a day.”

“I think we all have a voice like Baker’s,” another sympathized. “I suffered from imposter syndrome most of my life, always whispering that I wasn’t as good as the people around me. But they did quiet down in time.”
