I’m sure you all read about self-talk. The internal dialogue between words and thoughts seems to never stop. For many years, psychologists have divided self-talk into positive and negative. Of course, we should somehow stop self-critical assassins and emphasize those who validate us. But is that really useful to you? Have you ever wondered how to talk from self to inner peace?

As a practicing clinician for thousands of patients, I tried all these cognitive techniques for myself and my clients. Trust me: The endless stream of chat is called self-talk, which stops briefly, and then continues without waning.

If you don’t believe me, sit quietly and observe your thoughts if you can. No matter how blue the sky looks, dark clouds will soon come to perfection. So, is it really possible to go from talking to yourself to inner peace?

In addition, reality may be difficult to take. Even roses have thorns. Disappointment, betrayal and loss. Disease, suffering and death enter our lives. So, besides your own situation, there are many opportunities to introduce others to the south in your mind, the situation.

We all say we want to be happy and peaceful. But this is difficult and sometimes it seems impossible to achieve. It seems like in the circulation tape, regretting the past and fear of the future. Our minds run over and over on the negative grooves that lead to pain. Great pain. Facing all this negative self-talk and depression, stress and anxiety, we need a tremendous force to help us. Enable us to accept and calmly deal with the thorns of life. And help us smell and enjoy the many roses that have passed down our roads!

From talking to inner peace: openness to spiritual dimension

But there is something “something” that can relieve thousands of years of pain. This is the willingness to be open to the spiritual dimension. As the great philosopher Teilhard de Chardin once said:

“You are not a person looking for spiritual experiences. You are a spiritual immersion in human experiences.”

If we can turn to spiritual practice, higher power (HP), or God we understand, it is our pain. We can even turn to HP that we can’t understand or don’t understand. Just for Willing Trying something like this gives you a clean room with resentment, pain and frustration; balm for your spirit; and re-belief in life and love.

Maybe the idea of ​​”God” disappoints you. You might consider yourself an agnostic, atheist, or rationalist. If so, the only thing I want you to think about is that there seems to be a lot more to do here. Maybe you hear certain music that takes you into another aspect of happiness. Or, you have magical experiences in wildlife or nature that will give you a soaring spiritual feeling. Or, you’ve noticed synchronization: you’ll feel an intuitive feeling like running into an old friend who is about to happen, right in the middle of a street in a bustling city. These experiences show that many things happen beyond our consciousness and understanding. Perhaps only all power or strength is the basis of everything.

From self-dialogue to inner peace: What does research show?

There are many benefits in spiritual practices that aim to connect us to higher powers. Research shows that prayer and meditation can and can be healed. Even if the distance between prayer and the sick occurs, and those who pray do not know that they are helping, there will be a positive and healing physical effect. Thousands of studies have shown that meditation strengthens the immune system and helps with heart disease, asthma, type II diabetes, PMS, and chronic pain. Meditation also reduces stress, anxiety, fear and blood pressure, while increasing the feeling of being in a state of connection, compassion and tranquility.

Whether it is through meditation or prayer, music or nature, petitions to open yourself up with something higher than yourself or greater. It may be life; we are just a spotted universe; spirit, light, angel, animal or love itself. When you are connected to something bigger, no matter how you understand it, you don’t have to be alone and make your life come true in your life. Over time, even if things seem shocking or your life breaks down, you will develop a sense that the universe is kind and will support you.

It’s the ultimate soothing experience that allows you to be present and be able to experience the actual situation without negative or fear. Don’t fall into the swamp of negative and painful self.

From talking to oneself to inner peace: Get rid of pain

In most cases, we stick to the notion that we are separated from HP or God and are disconnected. This is my job. Yes, it keeps us physically safe and is useful for building our identities to build our lives. But when you take over too much of yourself, you will be given hell. Often, our focus is very focused on being right, “knowing” what is best for ourselves and others, and “knowing” certain events, situations or people are good or bad.

Whether we admit it or not, we often pretend to run the universe ourselves – our own small universe, our family, friends and work partners. At least we know how it should work. Especially when it comes to our men and our children. Of course, we have the most kind intentions to only notice their health and happiness. We hope it will be totally helpful and we absolutely know the best choice for most people.

I call this playing God. Who do you think is most hurt by your own high horse? Your partner? Your child? Others? Yes, they were injured, but not as many as this one.

From talking to self to peace: No one follows your script

Because it’s all on your shoulders. (Sounds familiar?) When things break down, it’s yours. And you don’t believe that crashes may be a springboard for bigger plans. When things go well, your pressure is all about staying successful and letting others work together on your ideas about how you should do it, even in so-called “good” situations.

Your loved ones rarely follow your scripts because they are best for them. Honestly, you don’t even follow your prescriptions and plans. Totally in charge of your isolated self-identity is like pushing a rock to a mountain that keeps falling on your head. It’s very tired.

Worse, playing the secret of God to make disappointment and anxiety make Wazoo anxious. Your judgment has begun. You broke your leg, frustrated by missing jobs, and fear death. But, at home, you start writing that awesome memoir, which has been boiling in it for decades. Good or good? You get promotions at work, but work 11 hours a day and fight with your boyfriend. Good or bad? When things are challenging, all the pain we do is usually completely for no reason. All of this does it work out that all the ducks in our chickens and line up are done when we don’t even show up as we think. That’s it.

From self-talk to inner peace: Just surrender and float downstream

So why not stop your struggles and float downstream? Why not succumb to something bigger? Why not imagine that everything is in the power of kindness or the hands of God? Not your hands. Just this hour? This day?

Invite your HP to inject you and your life with divine love, healing and inspiration. For those suffering from alcohol, drug use and food problems, I also recommend 12-step meetings such as anonymous, al-anon, Apropeaters Anonymous, etc. These meetings are an oasis of love and spiritual connection and provide you with selfless service and tranquility. If none of these are attractive, don’t give up. You can also try to update the religious practices you learned in childhood. Alternatively, you can look for a new church, synagogue or fellowship to appeal to you. Just make it a lively spiritual practice, not a rote prayer.
