3,000-year-old elite teenagers found in Iran –
Busy tombstones have been unearthed in the archaeological site of Tepe Chalow in northeastern Iran, including a cosmetic box decorated with snakes and scorpions, including a cosmetic box decorated with snakes and scorpions, including a bronze tomb. It is one of the richest tombs of the great Horasan civilization ever made.
The Tepe Chalow site was part of the Great Khorasan civilization at the time of the funeral and was first excavated in 2011. Since then, 48 graves have been discovered. The graves date most of the time to the larger Horasan era, but a few of them date back to the earliest days of settlements in the fourth millennium BC
The young woman’s grave was discovered in 2013 but was not published until now. Osteology examination found that she was about 18 years old after her death. She was buried in the right side facing the southeast. This is a typical location found in the burial of Tepe Charlow, but the contents of her grave are completely atypical. Hers is the only burial at the site and is equipped with a luxurious grave.
A total of 34 objects were buried with her. Twelve of them are the characteristics of the larger Horasan civilized pottery vase. Seven are stones made of green, lapis lazuli, serpentine and limestone. There are 13 metal objects, including a gold ring, two gold earrings, a pair of bronze bracelets, a bronze mirror, a bronze/bronze pin and a bronze/bronze seal. In addition to the metal pins, there are two ivory. Place the pottery at the head and below the feet of the deceased. Two pins were found near her shoulders, two bracelets on her arms, and many stone and metal artifacts near her face. At her feet was a large container containing a small bronze jar.
These artifacts are exquisite. One of their pins is shaped like a hand, holding 10 petal rosettes between the thumb and index finger. One of the seals sealed the depiction of a person’s feet. The most special piece is a small rectangular box made of polished black chlorate. The long edges of the box are carved with snakes, spreading openly, showing their fangs and forked tongues. The short-term feature is the scorpion
Stamp seals are used as signatures for transactions, so they are indicators of ownership and active participation in trade. Ivory imported from Afghanistan and the Indus Valley and the existence of Rapis Razeli are evidence of her wealth.
Wahadati said the woman buried in the grave 12 was an important person, but she was too young to obtain this status when she died. Instead, it is likely that she inherited her social status and wealth from her family through birth or marriage.
“The existence of this wealth in the graves of teenagers in the archaeological records of the Great Khorasan civilization remains unique,” Vahdati said. “At this stage, we can only talk about elite identities passed through bloodlines, which is consistent with the hierarchical nature of the GKC society.”
