This Japanese perfume smells like a newborn baby

In this world, cars and homes are in a world that many younger generations seem to be financially untouchable, such as accessible luxury items such as expensive niche perfumes.

From the elusive Cameleonic “smell of skin” to concept fragrances that smell like a library or a jazz bar, there are endless arrays of bottles to dissect on Fraginantica. But the new smell concocted by Japanese startup Scent Fest so far is probably the most edgy perfume: it is designed to capture the universal comfort odor of newborn babies’ heads.

Launched on June 15, Poupon Pure claims to be the world’s first perfume to scientifically recreate the smell of newborn babies. According to Scent Fest, six years of research data were used to reproduce the sweet powdery odor.

“As birth rates decline…reducing and eliminating anxiety and stress associated with pregnancy, childbirth and parenting has become a major social problem,” Scent Fest explains in A Media Reports. “Our products evoke tenderness to mothers and involved parenting people.”

Why do you have a newborn baby smell?

While the invention may sound like another “recession core” meme for some, Scent Fest CEO Mamiko Ozaki has developed the scent to help parents struggle with parenting, especially during the perinatal period.

Ozaki is an emeritus professor at Kobe University who specializes in taste and olfactory physiology and has long studied pheromones that control the social behavior of ants. Inspired by the way Ant uses pheromone as a communication tool, she wants to apply her expertise to human society.

Ozaki told Huge. “But at the same time, they scented up good, as if they were conveying the message, ‘Keep gentle to me, I think that makes it possible for us to take care of them.”

Working with physicians and mothers at Hamamason University Hospital, Scent Fest collected about 20 newborns’ head odors and identified 37 odor ingredients.

After the scent is reproduced, volunteers (including students, parents, grandparents and parenting workers) are asked to smell it. Based on fMRI and psychological sensory assessment, the aromas collected by the researchers activated “like,” “pleasant,” and “feelings that want to continue to smell.”

Scent Fest found that a key component of a pleasant scent for newborn babies is a chemical called Nonanal with a floral scent. This unique odor is said to gradually disappear about six weeks after birth. The company has registered patents on composition and production methods in Japan, the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
