Your partner’s good mood can have a huge impact on your health:
Do you know the saying “You are mine”?
Well, this seems to be true for your husband’s socks.
A recent study published in the journal Psychological Endocrinology found that your partner’s good mood can also make you feel happier.
The researchers analyzed data from 321 couples from Germany and Canada and found that when someone’s partner felt hotter than usual, it also lowered their cortisol levels—stress hormone—even if they didn’t feel that good.
This effect is even more pronounced among older adults reporting higher levels of relationship satisfaction.
It is worth noting that inverses are not necessarily true – meaning there is no observed association between someone’s ill mood and the partner’s cortisol levels.
During the honeymoon, participants were not spring chicken, they were between 56 and 87 years old, and the average couple had been together for 43.97 years.
So, Tomiko Yoneda, assistant professor of psychology at the University of California, chief writer Tomiko Yoneda, believes that Davis believes these findings suggest that older couples in long-term, firm relationships have found ways to protect each other and suffer from negative emotions.

This is important because adults often find it difficult to regulate their emotions as they age. After a stressful event, cortisol tends to stay longer in older people, and the aging brain may struggle to adapt to stress over time.
This can be a very painful experience when you add chronic body pain to reduce the effects of mobility and social distancing.
These results underline the importance of trying to maintain good mood around the spouse – as it can act as a psychological buffer for age-related stress.
“Having positive emotions with your relationship partner can act as a social resource,” Yoneda said.
This is not the first time science emphasizes the health benefits of happy partners.
A 2016 study found that over time, people with happy spouses are more likely to report better health conditions regardless of their own level of happiness.
Similarly, a 85-year Harvard University research project concluded that a happy marriage is the key to a healthy long-term life.
