“Don’t Marry Me at Christmas” by Claire Lydon It’s a delightful second Christmas romp.
Sara Snow is a Christmas lover who is also a bit of a Grinch. Her ideal ceremony? The sun was shining and there was no Beth at all.
Beth Callaghan is an expert at escaping her country, her emotions, and the occasional one-night stand with her best friend.
Now Beth is back, apologetic and determined. But can she melt Sarah’s frozen heart, or will it take a Christmas miracle? One thing’s for sure: Sarah Snow will never have a Christmas wedding. Correct? Correct?
writing
If this delightful second romance doesn’t fill you with Christmas cheer, I don’t know what will! This is a fun and festive read, with descriptions of beautifully decorated cupcakes so vivid you can almost smell and taste them. I can clearly imagine the Stollards windows decorated in all their Christmas glory and Sarah showing off her impressive baking skills to everyone. Witty dialogue and humorous moments as well as heartfelt romantic scenes add to the fun.
Pros and my favorite part
Sarah’s disdain for Christmas romance stands in stark contrast to her love of the holiday itself. While she finds holiday weddings cumbersome, she enjoys decorating the tree and embracing the holiday spirit. When she finally confronts Beth, who has cast a shadow on her (and everyone else in her life) after just one night together, Sarah doesn’t hesitate to express how deeply Beth’s behavior has affected her. of harm. I love that Sarah expresses these feelings, prompting Beth to recognize the damage she’s done to the people who have been supporting her.
Beth’s fear of relationships is understandable, given her mother’s history. She’s a runaway who believes she can ease everyone’s pain. However, she soon realized that her actions had caused Sarah and her family great heartache. Beth’s willingness to reflect on her actions and make amends is admirable and plays a key role in helping Sarah start to trust her again.
Sarah and Beth have a long history filled with childhood adventures, teenage drama and adult complications. From the beginning, it’s clear how deeply they care for each other. As Beth works to make amends, Sarah’s trust in her grows, and a truly sweet romance develops between two women who are destined to be together. I love the little heartfelt moments they share that add a special warmth to their vacation. The supporting characters add plenty of smiles and show how these two women have the support of those who love them.

“Twenty minutes.” Beth and Sarah looked at each other. “You can sit down if you want.” She looked at Sara’s bag on the floor. The things inside were big and boxy. Beth pointed to the strap on her bag. “I would, but I might strangle myself.” Another pause. “You probably have good reason to be happy with that.”
Sara gave her a stern look and shook her head. “If you want me to be friendly to you, you have to act like a friend. Which you definitely haven’t experienced in the past few years.”
Beth’s stomach turned. “I know.”
“Honestly, I don’t deserve it.”
“I agree.”
“But you did it anyway.”
“I know.”
This caused Sarah to cross her arms over her chest and let out an exasperated sigh. “If you find it annoying and agree with me, maybe we can stay silent for the next 20 minutes. That’s about 19 now.”
“Let’s be 18. See the positive side of life.”
“Forgive me if I don’t see that now.” Sarah puffed her cheeks. “I came here this morning to impress someone, but now that I know you work here, that’s impossible.”
