Need a blanket to protect the mattress

Okay, I haven’t seen any posts here lately with multiple recommendations, only one post where someone recommended a small mattress they had… My spouse and I are moving to a new place and are long overdue for a new mattress. We decided to get a blanket instead of a sheet because we wanted something we could kick to the floor and sleep on with a dry mattress. I ruined the bed. When he got close to me, the bed was like a river. Big puddles. I want 2 of the right size because we are getting a large mattress and I’m a big girl and we like to use all the space. But I don’t want to spend too much money. What affordable, good quality blankets can we buy? Or any moisture-proofing suggestions? Thanks!
