Becoming Vulnerable - Sex and Relationship Healing

How disgusting we are depends on our own secrets.

In her book Be boldBrene Brown writes, “Shame resilience is about moving from shame to empathy—the true antidote to shame. If we can share our stories with someone who can respond with empathy and understanding, shame cannot survive. Self-compassion is also crucial, but because shame is a social concept—it happens between people—it also heals best between people.” This is why it’s so hard for sex and porn addicts to heal on their own. Without the empathetic support provided by group therapy, 12-step sex recovery meetings, and the like, shame will continue to fester and fuel addiction.
