Her date thought she was a snack – but didn’t like that she brought her own.
A fitness influencer revealed that she once brought out a pre-packed lunch at a nice restaurant on a first date and a man got up and left.
Vanusa Freitas, 32, was excited to go on a first date with a new suitor at The Shard in London, but she didn’t want to disrupt her strict diet.
“I didn’t want to compromise my eating plan, so I decided to bring my own meals to the restaurant,” Freitas told NeedToKnow.
“I thought it was a good idea, but he disagreed.”
The unnamed man was so turned off by Freitas’ obsession with dieting that he ended the date.
“We were on a date and he just got up and left,” Freitas said.
“I don’t know what to do.”
The model explained that tracking her diet has been crucial to her career.
“Not everyone understands that sometimes I need to be 100 percent strict with my diet. When I have something to do, like a photo shoot, I tend to be more thorough,” she said.
However, being dumped on a first date made Freitas realize he had gone too far.
“Now I’m all about healthy living and real living. I do a little bit of everything but always commit to playing sports, any sport that I enjoy,” she shared.
“Even going out dancing burns calories. Cycling and cleaning also burn calories, so the ideal is to always be active. I believe that’s the secret.”
Freitas still follows certain diets at times, but no longer lets her eating habits disrupt her life.
“I’m happier with my body and I try to keep it balanced,” she said. “I give myself permission to ditch the diet once in a while. It will eventually settle down.”
“You don’t have to make too many sacrifices to maintain it.”
Luckily, Freitas was able to discuss what happened with her date and move on from the “awkward situation.”
“That day, I was sad, and so was he,” she shared.
“We talked afterwards and I apologised for what happened. It was our first date and it didn’t go well at the beginning but we managed to get over it.”
After that, the two went on several dates.
“I was just trying to maintain a healthy routine, but he thought it was too much,” Freitas said.
“Since this incident, I have become more cautious about how and when I implement a strict diet.”
