It’s safe to say that everything Lauren Emily writes is queer. (I know because she told me.) Even if it’s not explicitly stated—yes, even when it’s a cis girl and a cis man—it’s safe to assume that everyone is happily queer.

It’s hard to pick just one story from Lauren’s catalog, because they’re all remarkable. However, Camp Ardennes is particularly suited to a summer reading list. This seven-part series, where the stories can be enjoyed in succession or one at a time in no particular order, follows the adventures of several counselors working at the same summer camp. Camp Ardenne is a very queer and magical place, known for attracting beautiful, sex-positive, sex-toy-using, and very to make the most of their hot summer together.

The beauty of Eva Monroe’s writing is not only in how she shows what it can feel like to be in the mind and body of a willing submissive in the context of a kinky, trusting partnership (and how incredibly hot it is), but also in how her work has evolved since she began writing for Bellesa. That is, she’s moved further and further away from a binary view of gender.

Stories like The dream becomes reality where the gender of the narrator’s partner is never revealed, invites you, as the reader, to interpret the scene in the most comfortable and erotic way for You. So even if the characters aren’t necessarily openly and proudly queer at the time (and not everyone is!), I think it’s an important part of allowing space for queer exploration without default heteronormative scenarios.

This sweet and sexy story is one of my all-time favorites. The narrator has to go bra shopping and she’s anxious about it before she even enters the store. As a full-busted woman who’s dealt with the stress of stores not carrying anything cute in her size, this process has never been enjoyable.

But the (admittedly gorgeous) woman who runs this particular boutique puts her at ease by treating her with respect, patience, and even reverence, inviting her to feel more comfortable in her body. This, of course, leaves them with room to bring out other aspects of each other—because confidence is one of the sexiest things you can wear.

But Intrepid This is where they really shine.

This story is so powerful. It’s a beautiful representation of everything erotica has the potential to be—a kinky erotic love story, made authentic and amplified by its raw honesty and vulnerability, that nurtures and encourages every facet of empowerment in the characters and readers (as well as its creator).
